Plex is a free streaming app for everyone, no credit cards or subscription costs or hidden fees. To keep our service free we include ads which monetize all of the content that our partners, such as Lionsgate, AMC, and A24, provide to us.

You do not need to create an account to use Plex, but you get more when you do. Benefits that come with your free account include access to your very own universal Watchlist, the ability to customize the streaming services that show up in your search results, the ability to pick up where you left off on any device, and more.

Plex Pass is our premium subscription option designed for our users looking to get the most out of their own personal media via their Plex Media Server. We do not currently offer any option for watching Plex-provided content without ads. A Plex Pass does not remove ads, nor does it provide access to extra content on our free services. Check out an overview on Plex Pass benefits here.

Plex Media Server is a software application that allows you to organize and stream your collection of movies, TV shows, music, and photos, from a central location. Think of it like having your own personal Netflix or Spotify server that you can access from various devices. It's a great tool for anyone who wants to streamline their media consumption and take control of their entertainment experience.

It's totally free to download the Plex software, set up your server, and start streaming to any device. Some extra bells and whistles, like the ability to skip intros on TV shows or download media to your mobile device, require a Plex Pass subscription, while streaming to a mobile device for more than one minute requires an affordable one-time purchase to unlock.

We understand the importance of security, and take all necessary steps to ensure a safe and secure platform for all our users. We use high-quality SSL certificates to encrypt the connection between your client device and server, ensuring that all your personal information and server details are fully private and protected, and information about the contents of your server are never shared with Plex or any other third party.

My plex server has been running great on this router for quite a while. But the other day I was at someones house and logged in to my server using there Xbox One X Plex app, it played the movie and at one point I fast forward the movie and it crashed my plex server. I figure when I get home I'll just unplug and power off everything and turn it all back on and it would be fine. Well it has never worked since. I can still get to all my videos on the computer going through the router to the USB drive itself. but plex will not work. I did notice that the Plex server is not using the latest Plex server software even though I have automatic Update checked. I tried to uncheck the automatic update to manually install the latest Plex server but it doesn't give you the option. you can see the version I have vs the version available, I'm assuming this is the problem.

I have the latest FW version 1.0.4.26 and on the PLEX screen in the router config i cannot get any USB drive to be recognized as being connected. I have tried FAT32, NTFS and three different models all 8GB to 64GB in size. The USBs are all recognized and work fine with ReadyShare. So I am at a loss as to where to go from here. the USB ports are working, and am thinking now that it is the FW that is causing the issue? Any advice is appreciated TIA.

Not sure why the forum never alerted about this answer to my issue by email. But that is exactly what I ended up doing and found thats the issue. I guess sometimes the plex files can get corrupted and deleting everything but the media files and then hooking it up again like a new drive works.

So appreciate the link, but the problem is that no USB drives work on the PLEX server. I have one plugged in and ReadyShare sees it just fine, but on the PLEX page on the router it says No USB device connected

Running a Plex Media Server on a NAS device is a popular option as it allows for an all-in-one device that not only runs the server, but also stores lots of content. However, most NAS devices have some limitations when it comes to running a Plex Media Server, so it may not be the best choice for everyone.

Plex Media Server is compatible with a broad range of devices from a large number of NAS manufacturers. However, not every model from every manufacturer is compatible. We have a spreadsheet listing compatible models and basic information about them.

I installed Plex using Plex Media Updater. It went smoothly. Now, it shows that Plex is running. When I access the management page, ipaddress:32400, it shows "This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below."

Thank you.

I've just had to manually upgrade from 1.26.xx to 1.40.xx as my WD PR4100 wasn't noticing that there was an update available, or that the jump between 26 and 40 was too big a change... IDK. The Plex web app had notified me that there was a server update.

Anywho, I stopped the App on the NAS, and then manually installed the new server software via the NAS web client. I had the exact same error screen as the OP and I thought it was a bit of a disaster.

When it didn't work at all, I removed 1.40.xx and reinstalled the 1.26.xx that was sitting on the NAS as a piece of software that could be installed. Tried to access the web client and this wouldn't work either!

Rebooted both computer and NAS and started again. Decided that if I was going to have to bugger about with it in some way, that I'd start with the latest software. Re-installed 1.40.xx but again received the OP's error message. Googled the error and came to this thread. Manually overwrote the URL that was trying to be loaded and it worked immediately... very relieved! In fact, even though I'd deleted PLEX from my NAS (both versions) - i very curiously found that all of my settings were still intact, all of the films in the film category were all still sitting there as they were before. I seriously thought that I was going to have manually re-scan my entire library of all media files to reinstate all of them back in PLEX, but fortunately this wasn't needed at all.

Many thanks to Dale - saved me a real headache! (even 10 years on).

I can not for the life of me figure out why Plex will not recognize the files on this hard drive. It shows the external as there, Ubuntu shows the files and allows me to play them, view them, etc. Plex shows the name "External".

But when I click it, it is 100% empty and shows nothing to add. I can access the files on the external through file sharing just fine, on my windows computers but would love to be able to use Plex for streaming with our Roku.

Now that Plex has access to the drive, you need to make sure that it has access to all files in the relevant directories. This can be done by repeating the following for all of your media library folders:
