Great News  – after a fairly wild and raucous couple of days down at the Capitol this week, both the 2013-2014 and the remaining 2012 budget through June 30th (the Caboose Budget) passed the Virginia Senate late this afternoon.  After the conference report was defeated yesterday in fairly dramatic style on the Senate Floor, the bills were reconsidered this afternoon and Senator Chuck Colgan – a key, senior Democrat and former Senate Finance Committee Chairman – switched his vote to ‘yes’ to give the body the majority it needed (21-19) to win passage after the House overwhelming passed the conference report yesterday.  The bill will now go to the Governor (his comments on passage can be found here: http://www.governor.virginia.gov/News/viewRelease.cfm?id=1212) by the end of the month and he will have a short window at that point to make amendments – and the legislature will come back at some point in early-mid May to vote them up or down.

In any case – because of all of your hard work and dedication the last few months the news is very positive:

·         All cuts originally proposed by the Governor were fully restored -- $264,239 in 2012; $201,189 in 2013; and $137,439 in 2014.

The undeniable return on investment the fund provides and the dedicated and innovative local implementation won the day.  Great job to everyone involved – please let us know what question you might have and we will keep you posted if anything changes during the Governor’s review.
