The better option would be to connect the Resound streamer to the TV using an optical connection. As far as I can tell all of the TVs made by Roku have an optical output. Whether or not the speakers remain active when using the optical output I couldn't say. I have a TCL Roku TV that allows both the TV speakers and optical output to be active at the same time. That's probably true of most TVs.

Most streamers can work with your TV remote. But consider getting a dedicated model like Roku's Voice Remote Pro with features such as voice search and TV power controls. Rokus can also be controlled with a mobile app.

This Roku streaming device is normally cheaper than the company's Streaming Stick 4K and other 4K HDR streamers, so it's usually our top Roku pick. It's a great choice for those looking to get the most out of streaming without breaking the bank. Roku Express works with popular voice assistants Alexa, Siri and Google Assistant.

Looking for an audio upgrade as well as a new Roku? Check out the Streambar. This compact soundbar plugs into your TV's HDMI ARC port, improving the sound for all of your sources from cable boxes to game consoles. The best part of this Roku player is that it's also a 4K HDR-capable Roku streamer itself. We've found the Streambar easy to set up, and it sounds good for the size, particularly with dialogue. If you want stronger bass, however, consider adding Roku's wireless subwoofer ($180).

Roku Express: This is the one and only Roku model we don't recommend, because there are better entry-level streamers from Google and Amazon: the Chromecast with Google TV HD and the Amazon Fire TV Stick Lite. Either spend a little more to upgrade to the Express 4K Plus (or wait for a sale) or grab one of these other options.

There are three main kinds of streamers: dongles, which are essentially an extension of the HDMI cable; set-top boxes; and a hybrid of the two. Most streamers, such as the Roku Streaming Stick, Amazon Fire Stick and Chromecast, are dongles. Pricier streamers tend to be set-tops such as the Roku Ultra. Hybrid models like the Roku Express are small boxes that attach to the edge of your TV to catch IR signals from the remote.

The advantage of dongles is these devices work via RF signal and can be hidden behind the TV, whereas the other designs will usually be seen by the user. However, you can buy brackets that will mount a set-top streamer behind the TV.

I am totally befuddled with the MyCloud ex2 ultra not being seen on my two roku ultras. Interestingly my much older WdMycloud is totally visible and accessible. The new EXUlta is supposed to be DLNA compliment. There is a button for media server on the old device. I cannot find that button anywhere on the setting for the new Ex2 Ultra. I am not getting a helpful answer for phone support. Other then here are apps you can download. My response to that is I did not need to do that with the old WdMycloud. So if anyone has made the two device work together any help would be much appreciated. Thanks. I would be up and running instead of searching for help. If the media switch were returned. Thanks much

I got my to work by installing twonky. However it required a lot of digging to get it to work. I installed the twonky app via apps in the dashboard toolbar. You then need to configure. Pressing that button/bar leads to configure. This will open twonky and then you need to share the folder. /mnt leaving the choice at the other end open to all. In roku media player you have to hit * help and search for DLNA devices. Give it sometime but it will be seen. It is absolutely clumsy. I seem to have lost the ability to search on the drives tho. It is pretty clear OS5 was not completely and thoroughly tested. I did find out twonky is what was used inside of OS3 that made it so much easier to use.

US streamer Roku is tightening its purse strings, cutting about 10% of employees and taking on further cost-cutting measures to bring down its year-over-year operating expense growth rate.

The streamer, that is involved with Toronto 2022 biopic Weird: The Al Yankovic Story starring Daniel Radcliffe, laid off 200 employees in March (6% employees) and a further 200 in November 2022 (about 7% employees).

High dynamic range (HDR): Short for high dynamic range, HDR offers better contrast, better brightness, and more colors than standard dynamic range (SDR). It's considered by many to be a more notable visual improvement than the jump from 1080p Full HD to 4K Ultra HD resolution. Not all media streamers support it, and of those that do, not every flavor of HDR is necessarily supported.

Dolby Vision: A dynamic HDR format (as opposed to the static HDR10), Dolby Vision has several advantages, such as the ability to gauge your HDR TV's capabilities and tailor the HDR experience. Not all TVs or media streamers support it, however, so be sure to check the specifications before you buy.

Amazon's media streamers keep getting smaller and more affordable, with features like Alexa voice control via the remote making it a no brainer for fans of Amazon's system. You do get a user interface so it's easier to manage than the Chromecast, but it leans towards Amazon's content. That said, it does cover all services and supports 4K HDR formats and Dolby Atmos, making it technically more proficient than the Roku Streaming Stick+.

For the most part, we expect that most people will sign into services they subscribe to and then head straight to that player to access content. The players are familiar, but not identical to other streamers and apps. Head into Amazon Video or Google Play Movies, for example, and things are a little different visually, although the content is all the same.

It would be awesome if roku could get a working twitch app. At this point, I would pay money for it - ad supported or not. I can't switch the entire house to fire tv/stick/cube right now but watching twitch on my tv is really important.

Why is this still an issue? If I'm lucky, 1 out of every 5 streams load, the others get stuck at 99%. That's one out of 5 subscriptions I'm paying for and can't watch the channel! When I stop subscribing, it's going to hurt the streamer more than it will hurt Twitch, which is the only reason I haven't unsubscribed already, but this is ridiculous! I've sent multiple messages to @TwitchSupport on Twitter, I've seen hundreds of posts on Reddit and this is still an issue. I just don't understand. How about you put the "Beta" site on hold and fix the current, long-standing issues?!?! FFS!

ROBBINS: What we've seen is that streamers now have more content options than ever before. Our research tells us more than half of our consumers don't know what to watch next. So as we go into the upfront, we really think that scale is going to define the future of TV, that there will be streaming services that draw large, standalone audiences, but there's actually going to be hundreds of channels that thrive when it's easy for streamers to find their shows.

ROBBINS: When you're already running as a marketer on TV streaming, the question we pose is, why stop with a 15- or 30-second video? We want to make it easy to go beyond that. The Walmart example [on our earning call] was built around a holiday campaign where Walmart wanted to reach millennials 18 to 34, who are shopping during the holiday season, and so they ran targeted video ads. What they did on top of it was launch an interactive Roku TV sweepstakes from the Roku home screen. So a streamer could actually enter those sweepstakes just with a click of their remote. What we found was that 80% of streamers who were exposed to that campaign had not seen a Walmart ad on traditional TV, and that brand favorability for Walmart increased about 65% in that 18-34 demographic. So it was actually those cord-cutters and younger folks who are not on traditional cable.

In addition to Roku streaming player and Roku TV deals, Roku is offering customers who purchase and activate a Roku player or Roku TV model between now and January 16, 2016 content offers from Hulu, CinemaNow, SHOWTIME and others valued at up to $100. Additional offers include free trials of HBO NOW, Netflix, and more. Roku has the most complete lineup of streaming players available this holiday season, making it easy to find a streaming player that meets the needs of every streamer. In addition to the Roku 3, Roku Streaming Stick, and Roku SE, consumers can also find the newly released Roku 4 for 4K UHD and HD streaming, the powerful Roku 2, and the Roku 1 that works with older TVs.
