I had a hard time falling to sleep.Visions of what I had seen flooded
my mind.When I finally drifted off,I dreamed that I was sick and had
to go to the doctor.My regular doctor was on vacation and my mother
called my pediatrician and asked if she could see me.In my dream,I

told me to stop whining and that the doctor did it as a favor and that
I should appreciate it.I was ordered to take a bath and get "squeaky

patience with me.

We drove to the doctors office in silence."Hi, I'm Louise Martin and
this is my daughter,Donna." My mother said to the receptionist."Oh,yes-
the doctor will be with you shortly" she replied and told us to have a
seat in the waiting room.The room was full of little kids with their
mothers and I felt out of place at 18 years of age.The dream went
on.My name was called and I got up to go with the nurse into the exam
room.The nurse asked my mother to come as well and I almost lost it.My
mother was embarrassed and glared at me and told me to stop acting
like a child.

"Young lady,all patients are accompanied my a parent in this office-
the doctor insists." the nurse explained.We went inside the
sterile,white exam room."Donna,please undress and I will take your
vitals before the doctor examines you." the nurse ordered.I pouted,but

I folded my clothes and put them in a pile on the bench.The nurse
opened a draw and took out a black thermometer case.She unscrewed the
top and pulled it out.After shaking it down with hard snaps of her
wrist,she put it on a paper towel and put a dollop of lubricant on the
bulb."I'm 18,there is no way you,re taking my temperature RECTALLY!"
I shouted.My mother turned red-faced.The nurse kept her cool.

"Donna,we take all temperatures rectally.It a pediatricians office and
we don't have oral thermometers.You're here my special arrangement-so
just cooperate.Lay face down on the exam table and lets get this over
with." The nurse explained.When I did not move,the nurse walked over
to my mother and whispered something into her ear that I could not
make out.My mother smiled and gave her consent to whatever the nurse
proposed.The dream was so vivid it felt like this was actually
happening.

"Since you don't want to do things the easy way-we will have to do it
the hard way." the nurse explained and I felt a chill go down my
spine.She grabbed my arm and walked me over to a chair.The nurse sat
down in it and pulled me over her lap,with my bottom hiked up and my
feet off of the floor.I yelled and kicked my legs.

Then I felt it.The first spank sounded like the crack of a whip and
stung my bottom.I cried out as the nurse swatted one "cheek" and then
the other.Mom had a satisfied look on her face as she watched.I could

cold!" I whined "It won't be for long''the nurse assured me and she
and Mom laughed as I lay over her her lap with the glass rod deeply
inserted.My nurse adjusted the thermometer several times as we

chart my temperature.Just then the doctor walked in and commented
"My,My-someone has been a naughty patient."

The doctor examined me and as a final insult,I was given a shot of

throughly "greased" for my temperature taking.I saw stars as she
