As Manager of Software Development , you will lead a team of developers and be our resident expert in the area of security, infrastructure, and performance for an assessment creation/management platform called ABBI. ABBI is used by Pearson employees, partners, and clients to build quality assessments for K-12 education and beyond. ABBI is part of a network of systems that are managed by Pearson’s Assessment & Qualifications division and designed to measure learning outcomes.

As a member of the ABBI leadership team, you will participate in release planning, feature prioritization, and long-term planning for the platform. You will serve as the advocate for system stability and security and ensure that appropriate resources are dedicated to these needs. You will engage in a group effort to continually improve our teams’ internal processes, culture, and methods for meeting the needs of our customers.

As the leader of a development team, you will act as scrum master and practice agile software development methodologies. With access to expertise within your team, a Pearson security team, architecture experts, and an external development operations team, you will drive initiatives to keep ABBI fast, secure, and stable. This may include automated performance testing, security scanning routines, penetration testing, disaster recovery and data resiliency planning, infrastructure improvements, data privacy compliance, and hosting cost forecasting. You will act as a liaison with the incident management team to ensure that issues get addressed quickly, potentially routing issues to dev ops or to other ABBI development teams.

As a manager, you will be responsible for mentoring your team members, encouraging professional development, and ensuring that your developers have the guidance, software, and training to succeed. You will promote a culture of respect and collaboration and lead by example. Part of that culture should include pride in quality software development and in the role that Pearson assessment products play in improving education and promoting fairness. Your management style will account for a diverse, geographically dispersed team.
