The Process & Instrumentation Engineer III provides process engineering, process development establishes and maintains instrumentation, control and electrical standards for the site and maintain the installed base of control systems including validation documentation and programming and project management support to Curia-Wisconsin.

Essential job duties - Process
Evaluate potential new products, develop PFDs, P&IDs, establish chemical balance for each production step, assess capital requirements
Project engineering and management of process and plant improvement projects as required
Develop and assist in execution of validation protocols required to maintain compliance with cGMPs
Process engineering support for Production department efforts including: scale-up of new products; and general liaison between Engineering and Production
Analyze chemical processes by statistical and cost analysis to prioritize improvement efforts
Lead teams in special projects involving single or multiple disciplines or organizations
Identify and evaluate new equipment/technologies that enhance our manufacturing capabilities
Train and develop production staff as required
Provide technical support to Production, Maintenance and Quality for process, equipment, and quality issues
Travel to customer facilities to support sales/engineering presentations as required
Follow Curia’s dress code and personal protective equipment SOP
Perform all duties within the guidelines outlined by Good Manufacturing Practices for active pharmaceutical intermediates and site Safety Program requirements

Essential job duties – Instrumentation
Manage capital projects related to instrumentation, controls and electrical and direct department activities to achieve the goals of the project
Establish and maintain instrumentation, control and electrical standards at the facility
Provide instrumentation, electrical and process control support for capital projects
Assemble and maintain validation documentation, loop & wiring drawings, P&IDs, etc. for installed control systems at the site
Assist design personnel with Instrument Location plans, PLC Panel layouts, and I/O Wiring Diagrams
Ensure that projects are installed and completed per design specifications, plant standards, and conform to regulatory requirements such as NFPA, NEC, etc.
Supervise Instrumentation, Process Control, and Electrical contractors on site in all aspects of their work
Procure equipment and services from outside vendors to meet site instrument, control and electrical requirements; prepare detailed specifications, obtain competitive quotations where applicable, and prepare capital acquisition requests and purchase requisitions
Provide technical assistance and support to the production, maintenance and quality departments as needed, including off-hours support
Maintain Foxboro I/A Systems in the plant including installation and upgrades with both hardware and software:
Develop, implement, and maintain the automated batch & continuous control process programs in the DCS
Implement formula and recipe changes in the DCS
Update, modify, change, and maintain the DCS graphic displays
Conceptualize, present and supervise the modernization of the electrical infrastructure of the site to optimize resource utilization, maximize reliability, and accommodate future expansion plans
Maintain control system checkout and startup, including PLC ladder logic & graphical interface
Develop and implement process control improvements, including the selection/sizing of control valves, flow measurement devices, and field instrumentation
Recommend, evaluate, and implement process improvements. Initiate and support continuous improvement activities through Lean Six Sigma principles
Support the guiding principles of Responsible Care to continually improve the plant's safety, health and environmental performance
Support the Quality Improvement Process. Plan strategies to ensure error-free work and convey this in the daily performance of various duties
Perform analysis, detailed design (including documentation), capital request preparation, installation, start-up/checkout/debugging, and cost control of assigned projects
Initiate and facilitate Management of Change Request. Manage records regarding all system software changes and communicate any changes to affected employees
Manage contractors and maintenance staff during project installations
Monitor plant systems, analyze performance, and initiate action for optimization to achieve plant goals for safety, productivity, and cost effectiveness
Draft, review and approve Standard Operating Procedures
Assist all departments in investigations of instrument related issues including completion of assigned deviations and CAPAs
Recommend and implement methods to increase the quality of products and/or services
Participate in self-development activities and training of others

Education, experience, certification and licensures Required
Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Electrical Engineering or related field
Minimum 5-8 years of applicable engineering experience
Experience in developing and preparing Process Flow Diagrams (PFD), programmable logic controllers (PLC), Water/Wastewater controls and other process control systems
Preferred
Experience with Distributed Control Systems (DCS)
Capital project experience
