We are seeking a Senior Database Migration Engineer to drive a large-scale
database modernization initiative. You will assess existing MySQL/RDS
environments, define the migration strategy, and execute the migration to
Amazon Aurora MySQL and MySQL 8.x.
Key Responsibilities
Evaluate existing MySQL/RDS workloads, schemas, and dependencies. Define
comprehensive migration strategies (DMS, CDC, backup/restore) including cutover
and rollback plans.
Migrate Amazon Aurora MySQL, manage major version upgrades (to 8.x), and resolve compatibility issues.
Optimize SQL logic, stored procedures, and database configurations. Right-size RDS/Aurora instances for performance and cost.
Design and execute robust pre- and post-migration data reconciliation and validation scripts, ensuring audit-ready evidence for SOX compliance.
Author technical runbooks, risk registers, and migration plans.
Required Qualifications:
10+ years of hands-on production MySQL experience (5.7 & 8.x), including major version upgrades and managing multi-terabyte databases.
Deep expertise in Amazon RDS for MySQL, Aurora MySQL, AWS DMS, S3, EC2, CloudWatch, IAM, and KMS.
Proven experience designing and executing complex migrations using AWS DMS, CDC/replication, logical migration, snapshot-based, and blue/green approaches.
Advanced SQL skills, ability to modify complex stored procedures, and proficiency in Python/scripting for migration automation and data validation.
Strong ability to independently lead assessments and present technical strategies to business and engineering stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
Hands-on experience with large-scale (10+ TB) MySQL to Aurora migrations.
Experience with MyISAM to InnoDB conversions.
Familiarity with data warehouse/analytics platforms (Snowflake, Redshift) and BI integrations.
Prior experience performing database modernizations in highly regulated (Financial/Healthcare/SOX) environments.
Database – Specialty, Solutions Architect, or Data Engineer AWS Certifications.
