Job Description:  SAP Principal Architect
Location: Initially Remote / Libertyville, IL, US (Hybrid Work Model) REMOTE
Any VISA

Summary:

Seeking a highly experienced Principal SAP Architect to lead the design, strategy, and implementation of enterprise SAP solutions. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical expertise across the SAP ecosystem and demonstrate the ability to align technology with business objectives. This role will drive SAP architecture standards, guide complex implementations, and ensure scalability, reliability, and innovation across the organization’s SAP landscape.

Key Responsibilities
1. Solution Design & Architecture

Stay current with the SAP roadmap, innovations, and ecosystem changes; assess their impact and opportunities for improvement.

Provide strategic direction and thought leadership for end-to-end SAP architecture aligned with industry standards and best practices.

Translate complex business requirements into scalable and future-ready SAP solutions.

Architect SAP solutions including SAP S/4HANA, SAP BW/4HANA, Datasphere, and related modules.

Apply appropriate design patterns to ensure system reliability, performance, and scalability.

Ensure robust integration of SAP solutions with enterprise applications and platforms.

Develop and maintain architecture blueprints, technical specifications, and documentation.

Deploy ecosystem components required for automated operations, including CI/CD pipelines, automated change management, testing tools, compliance monitoring, and performance management.

2. Implementation & Project Leadership

Provide technical leadership and guidance to developers, consultants, and cross-functional project teams.

Lead SAP implementation initiatives, ensuring alignment with architectural standards and business objectives.

3. Technical Expertise & Operational Support

Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for SAP architecture and related technologies.

Monitor SAP developments, industry trends, and emerging best practices to maintain an innovative environment.

Provide technical support and troubleshooting for SAP environments to ensure high availability, security, and performance.

Conduct system audits, optimization exercises, and performance tuning.

Ensure SAP solutions adhere to regulatory requirements, security standards, and organizational governance practices.

4. Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

Work closely with product owners, business analysts, application owners, digital partners, developers, and SAP/vendor contacts.

Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders clearly and effectively.

Foster a collaborative, innovative, and knowledge-sharing culture across the IT and business landscape.

Build and maintain strong relationships with SAP account representatives and strategic partners.

Requirements
Educational Background

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (required).

Master’s degree (preferred).

Experience

Minimum 15+ years of hands-on experience in SAP architecture, solution design, and implementation.

Proven success leading large-scale SAP transformation programs.

Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and staying updated with SAP technologies.

Technical Skills

Deep expertise with SAP S/4HANA, SAP BW/4HANA, Datasphere, SAP BTP, SAP RISE, and related modules.

Experience in healthcare manufacturing or distribution environments (highly preferred).

Strong understanding of microservices architectures and exposing SAP functionality externally.

Experience with SAP Cloud ALM, SAP Solution Manager, and CI/CD pipelines for SAP landscapes.

Familiarity with BI integration including SAC, Data Intelligence, and third-party analytics tools.

Solid knowledge of HANA, Oracle, and SQL Server database technologies.

Proficiency in ABAP, SAP Fiori, and UI5 development.

Experience with Azure cloud is a plus.

Certifications (Desirable but not Required)

SAP Certified Application Associate – SAP S/4HANA Solution Architect

SAP Certified Application Associate – SAP BTP

SAP Certified Technology Associate – System Administration (SAP S/4HANA)

SAP Certified Technology Associate – BTP Integration Suite
