Hello friends,
Some of you live in the San Francisco Bay area and I'm not sure who, so I'm sending this to everyone!   Please forgive me if this is out of range for you.

This is to invite you to a special and unusual event - a social evening with me and with other friends and colleagues who have some experience with religious fundamentalism and issues of recovery.  As you know, this has been an area of work for me for some time.   Recently, I have become inspired to join with others in building a network of communication and support services for all the people everywhere who are struggling to recover from the damaging effects of authoritarian religious experience.  We are gradually developing a number of areas, including a comprehensive website with many resources, a helpline, referral services, recovery programs, creative arts, and more.   Some of you have been involved but haven't met each other, or you have not learned about recent developments.  In any case, you might just be curious.

On Tuesday evening, I'm inviting you to a barbecue and potluck dinner, primarily to socialize and meet some very interesting and creative people - just like you.  While you have a variety of backgrounds and professions, you share some knowledge about fundamentalism (mostly Christian) and serious concern about it's effects.  So come along and have a meal and a cocktail.   We'll have the barbecue ready with some burgers and veggie burgers too.  Please bring a side dish to share, and anything else you want to barbecue, or drink.

Among the team of volunteers working on recoveringfundamentalists.com, is Rob Wood, a web analyst who will be our special guest.   After we eat, you are welcome to listen to Rob explain what's happening on the website and how people can help.   There are a number of interesting research assignments and other tasks, including posting your own story.   I will also explain how folks can volunteer for the help-line and be supportive to people who need someone to talk to about religious dilemmas.

Finally, those interested will go to my apartment where there is wifi, and we will spend a little time together actually doing some work on the project.  We'll divvy up some tasks to take home and have a plan for moving forward.  So, if you want to do this part, bring your laptop!

Please RSVP, and feel free to contact me with any questions.  If you can't make it but still want to be involved, let me know.

Warm regards,
Marlene

Parking is on the street.  Please come to the middle of the apartments by the swimming pool, which is very warm by the way if you want to swim.
Also, a sandy beach is right across the street and the ocean water is quite swimmable too.   So come early and bring your suit if you like.
