Hello everyone,
I hope this finds you doing well!
Some good news for you - I've recently met two young men who have started a
new website,
www.recoveringfundamentalists.com, which will largely be focused on resources for recovery. Since this was the goal for a website I was interested in starting, we are teaming up, with a nice combination of skills. There is room for volunteer work on the website, so if you are interested, please let me know, and I'll send you a list of possible ways to contribute. One thing you can do right away is to send your story to the site. The webmasters are Rob Steiner and Drew Stedman.
The other project for supporting people leaving some kind of fundamentalism is to have a
team of volunteers who can be available to talk on the phone or correspond by email with folks who are in urgent need of support. They might also be getting professional help or they might not be able to afford it, but they need someone to talk to who understands. We are in the process of setting up a
crisis line for those who might be suicidal or in a lot of pain. We also just want to connect people who can establish supportive relationships, a bit like "sponsors" in AA. This is all in development.
At this stage, I'm interested in hearing from those of you who would like to help and stay informed. You don't need to have any professional training but you do need to have done some healing work of your own. We all have more to do of course, but you need to be able to convey hope and encouragement to people fresh out of the fold. The main thing is to listen well. At some point, I'll arrange some training by webinar.
Release and Reclaim GroupThe online support/therapy group is still active and gaining members. If you are interested and want to consider joining, feel free to call me to discuss it.
Our next conference call is Sunday, Feb. 7 at 10 AM PST.
