Hi everybody Grettings from venezuela. I run a small web development
company. We use Ubuntu in our clients and servers. We are growing up
so we want to create a custom Ubuntu CD that installs all our
development environment (LAMP, IDE's, Compilers, etc) in one step, in
other words install the desktop systems plus the development software
we use.

My question is: I can do it with reconstructor?? how???

Thank for your anwsers.

Hi man, what you need to do is straight forward with reconstructor.
You just have to download and install reconstructor, then let it extract a Live CD iso of Ubuntu Feisty and then, once the iso is extracted, you click on the little terminal icon in reconstructor so that you can use a command line. At this point, just:
apt-get install
all the packages you need, as you would do from a real Ubuntu. You won't be able to use graphic tools such as synaptic but from command line it's all very easy and quick too. After you installed everything you need, close this sub-terminal, click on the apply button, add each extra modding you may need to apply and then complete the process by clicking forward and giving reconstructor a filename and folder where it will create your iso. Sice you start from a Live CD that is already full and you're going to add more software to it, surely you'll build a Live DVD. No problem. The iso size is not important if you're building a DVD and not a CD. You'll be able to burn it on a DVD and it will be a nice Live DVD :)
Hope that helps.

That is exactly what reconstructor does. Visit
http://reconstructor.aperantis.com. There is help documentation to get
you started.

Hi people and thanks for your quickly answers too!!!

I have one more question. The process you'd described creates a Live
DVD with al the software i want and that is wonderfull but i want not
only the DVD! I want to be able to install it with al the custom
software in our workstations. This is automatic or i'll have to do
something more???

Any program you need to install can be installed from inside reconstructor. As I said, you access to a sub-command-line that controls your distro. From this command line, for example, you can install any deb package! Everything you modify in the command line from reconstructor is modified in your Live DVD distro too! So, for example, you can also install tar or deb packages and see them working in the Live DVD. Of course, the modified Live DVD will be installable and it will be installed with all your modding! ;)
Nice, hum?
Not only. You can access to the live cd structure of the disc with a normal file browser too, with root privileges (for example, gksu nautilus --no-desktop), since it is stored into a normal folder into your home dir (You can specify reconstructor the working dir where to extract the contents of the live cd / dvd too). So, if you modify files into this dir with a normal file browser, you find them modifyed in the final Live media result too. You can, this way, add also your own files and configurations! Now, isn't that nice?
To see an extreme result of modding with reconstructor you could have a look at my geubuntu:
http://www.geubuntu.intilinux.com
The work strarted from a normal Ubuntu Feisty and look what I obtained ;)
Any other doubt, try using directly reconstructor, you'll understand much more trying it and talking about it, believe me :D
