I've exhausted every resource I can think of, looking for a solution to my problem.  I've installed everything as instructed... updated my C++ redistributables... updated my Inted HD Graphics card... uninstalled everything, and reinstalled it again and again.  When I try to open "Start_ReconstructMe_Scan_Open_NI", a command line window opens up, followed immediately by a Windows error message:

"The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b). Click OK to close the application."

When I click "OK" on the Windows error message dialogue box, the command line window says "Press any key to continue...."  Any key I press exits out of the command line window.  No error logs appear in the ReconstructMe file folders... and there is no "Logs" folder in the group.

I'm attempting all of this on a new HP Pavilion dv7-6163us running Windows 7 Home Premium (SP-1)... Intel HD Graphics 3000 with 1696 MB memory and DirectX 10.1... with an Xbox Kinect and the power supply/adapter I bought for this project.

I read somewhere in this forum that we need to be using USB 3.0 ports with the Xbox Kinect.  I believe this laptop has 2 USB 2.0 ports, and 2 USB 3.0 ports... but I'm not sure which ones are which (there are 2 on the left, and 2 on the right).  I'll try various ports and see if that helps at all.

I would certainly appreciate any help that anyone might be able to give me!  Thanks in advance!  :)

Okay, I still haven't gotten ReMe to work on the new Pavilion dv7 laptop... but I was actually able to get it to start up on my older Toshiba Satellite laptop.  However, it starts up and then gives me an error saying that it can't find an appropriate OpenCL device.  Ugh!!!

Any advice on how to get ReMe to work on my new laptop?  I don't think my old one is running right... that's why I bought the new one.

Thanks!  :)

You need to install the Intel OpenCL driver, which is separate from the Intel GPU driver. Here: http://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/download-intel-opencl-sdk/
reconstructme should work with the Intel HD Graphics 3000, it's the 4000 it doesn't seem to work with. Make sure you follow the installation instructions: http://reconstructme.net/projects/reconstructme-console/installation/

Okay, I guess I installed the wrong version of OpenCL before.  I downloaded the one from the link you provided.  I uninstalled every instance of MS Visual Studio (2005, 2008, and 2010) and re-installed the 2010 version from the link on the same page.  I uninstalled EVERYTHING related to OpenNI, ReMe, and the Kinect.  Then I reinstalled everything just as is says to in the "Microsoft Kinect for XBox" portion of the instructions.

I'm still getting the exact same error as before... it will not open.  I have no idea where to go from here... and it's very frustrating.  :(

But thanks for your attempt to help, Ian S.  Much appreciated.  I hope to get this figured out eventually, because I think it would be a great addition to my 3D design software, and my 3D printer.

After a bit of googling, I think (and remember this is a forum, and all advice is arbitrary!) that the Windows error message you are getting - 0xC000007B - is caused by mismatching dll/exe's. It MAY be related to the installation of the C++ executables. You MAY need to run a Windows 7 repair to get the dll/exe properly registered, especially if you had other versions installed previously. Make sure you are running the 32bit version of the C++ executable - reconstructme is all 32-bit. If you are running the 64 bit executable as well, you MAY need to remove it. Please try not to blame me if this advice is incorrect, I haven't had this problem!

Also, check that the Kinect is registered correctly in the Device Manager. There should be 3 items under the Primesense driver. If there isn't, there is a thread on this forum somewhere that explains how to resolve this. I'll find it later if this is a problem.

I appreciate your suggestions, and I'm working  on the issue as I write this.  I have had some issues with Windows 7 lately, and the maintenance/repair service that I have a subscription to (24/7 Techies) has not fixed any of my problems despite several long online sessions with them.  (I'm not at all satisfied with their service.)  I'll see what I can do to repair Windows 7 and get my registry fixed... and then try again.  Thanks again for your help!  :)

I used CC Cleaner to get rid of quite a few bad registry entries, wipe the free space on my hard drive, and perform several other maintenance tasks.  My laptop is running great, but I still can't get ReMe to work... and I'm having the exact same issue with trying to start it up (error 0xc000007b and no log entries to help diagnose the problem).

I'm wondering if I need to UNINSTALL everything related to ReMe, and THEN perform a registry scan/fix, and then reboot my laptop, and then RE-INSTALL everything again?  I've tried just about everything, and I'm close to giving up.  :(  I have a business to run and a 7-yr-old boy to raise on my own, so unfortunately I don't have a lot of free time to look into issues myself.  I certainly appreciate any advice (no matter how arbitrary) from anyone.  I'm open to any suggestions (other than giving up).  :)

CC Cleaner is really just a registry maintenance tool, it won't get rid of damaged files or spot clashing dlls.

This does seem to be a Windows system problem, and seems to be able to strike anything. eg http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_programs/error-code-oxc000007b/b0bdfbe4-0895-4f86-904f-97bfe5c5a1ae
This activity is almost virus-like, though may be caused by an erroneous Windows Update, or mixing 32- and 64-bit dlls. You could uninstall everything related to reme, including the C++ redistributables, drivers etc, but then you might still miss the thing that's causing the problem, only to reload everything and have the same issue. If you do decide to uninstall everyinything, check that everything reme-related is removed from Add/Remove software control panel as well.

Other options seem to include:

1. Running the Windows 7 repair environment (choose 'Startup Repair'; see http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/11028.how-to-access-windows-recovery-environment-in-windows-7-en-us.aspx
2. Running sfc (System File Checker - see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833 for details).
3. Reverting to an earlier Restore point using Windows System Restore. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/features/system-restore

These are all pretty heavyweight solutions; make sure you back up any important data before doing any of these. I'd probably start with sfc, then try the repair environment - I hate System Restore, it's like giving up, and the error may just happen again if it's a system update!

I did uninstall everything related to ReMe, and re-installed it all over again.  No luck, no help at all... same problem exists.  I do appreciate your suggestions.

I don't care for the Windows Recovery options, either.  I have my computer set up with many business-related CAD programs, etc... and Recovery has not fixed anything for me in the past.  My only other Recovery option is to restore my computer to it's factory condition... which is a last resort, in my mind.

I tried running SFC.exe, and it opens a Command window for about a second, which then quickly disappears.  It doesn't seem to do anything at all for me.

I think I may just give up on ReMe... although I really hate to.  It would be a fun toy to play with, and I hate giving up.  I used to be quite good with computers... but I haven't kept up with all of the newer technology, and I'm almost lost these days.  :(

Thanks for your help, though.  I may try something else, at a later date.

Okay... tried once again.  I uninstalled everything (C++ x86 and x64, both PrimeSense drivers, OpenNI, and ReMe), and then I purchased RegCurePro and cleaned up several registry problems (supposedly).

I re-installed everything according to the "manual", and nothing works... I'm still getting the same 0xc000007b error that I've always gotten.

Any other possibilities, people?  I would really like to get this thing running!

Thanks again...

Which C++ x86 runtimes did you install? Could you try, for testing purposes, to install ReconstructMeQt?

Best,
Christoph

No, only the ASUS suffers from the USB 3.0/2.0 problem.
