Hi all!

I'd like to include some foreign code ( CRC32 from this site: http://www.easics.com/webtools/crctool) into ReconOS. This led me to a general question:

Are there any rules that govern the inclusion of foreign code?

The CRC32 code license says that, as long as i don't remove their copyright message, i can do whatever i like with the code. So inclusion into ReconOS would be fine from their point of view. What is ours?

Kind regards
Sebastian Meisner

Hi all

No objections from my side.

But you touch upon an issue that was raised by Enno. He advised us to clean up the repository to make it clear what parts of the code are made available under which licensing terms. He also suggested to define a contribution policy and process, such that we can prove that each contributor has accepted the licensing conditions.

I think this issue should be discussed with the core developers in the close future because clear licensing terms and policies are key to a more widespread use of ReconOS in particular in commercial environments.

Cheers,
Christian

For my current work i created a directory called "externals" in the ReconOS main directory. In subdirectories therein i will put the external code i use. This way we have a clear separation between our own and foreign code.

@Christian: Do you want to suggest a meeting or shall we discuss the contribution policy and process online?

I think we should discuss this in person. I will also ask Enno again for his advise, he seems to have put some thought into this issue before.

Cheers,
Christian
