Subject: Merging of ILLRS and ASAMI&BR

Dear All,

As agreed at the last general assembly of ILLRS in Bahia, talks were initiated between elements of the ILLRS and ASAMI & BR directory, aiming to merge both into one society.
After an exchange of emails with the current president of
ASAMI & BR and the president of congress, respectively Jhunjhunwala and Milind, Dror went to India and had a meeting with them. From that meeting was born some understanding, which allowed the proposal of unification that is now presented.
The following text is the proposal of Dror, to be submitted to the directory of ASAMI & BR, with which I fully agree.
I wanted to congratulate Dror for the work he had in preparing this proposal.

I ask
for everyone to comment on it.

(Dror)

I will be attending both the AAOS and the SICOT meeting. I am happy to meet and discuss with any or all of you. My cell phone if you want to reach me is +1-410-340-1075
I have given all of this a lot of thought. I think I have found a compromise that we can all live with.
  1. We all agree to meet in Goa the day before the meeting and try to find a way to unite the two societies. In order to increase the success of this I and if possible Nuno Lopes will meet with Milind and Jhunjhunwala at the SICOT meeting in India in October 2013. In preparation for this meeting we will bring together our bylaws, identify areas of agreement and areas of potential disagreement. We will discuss ways in which we can reunite the two groups and then take these back to our respective executive boards. We will then communicate electronically one by one to resolve our differences. We will have one year to do this. Any unresolved issues, we will deal with in person in Goa. In this manner we can arrive in Goa with a lot of the work behind us and with only a few minor, perhaps one or two major issues to resolve.
  2. The ILLRS will move its Miami meeting to the fall of 2015. If the two societies can agree to unite in Goa Congress in September 2014, this will be our first combined meeting. ASAMI&BR will accept Nuno Lopes as president of the combined society and Dror Paley as Chairman and organizer of the meeting in Miami in 2015.
  3. At the 2015 Miami meeting, the second combined meeting, the new board of the united society will decide on the venue,of our fifth combined meeting to take place in the fall of 2018. The newly chosen executive board and delegates will vote upon a new Chairman for this meeting and a new president for the united society according to the bylaws of the new combined society.
  4. ASAMI&BR will proceed with its meeting in Australia in the fall (Sept-Nov) of 2016. If the two societies agree to unite this will be our third combined meeting. The ILLRS as a condition of union will accept the previously chosen president of ASAMI&BR and meeting chairman as the president and meeting chairman for the new united society, in the Australia Congress.
  5. ILLRS will proceed with its meeting in Lisbon, Portugal in the fall of 2017. If the societies agree to unite this will be our fourth combined meeting. ASAMI&BR will accept Dror Paley as President and Nuno Lopes as Chairman of the united societies and meeting respectively.
  6. All future venues, presidents and chairmen will follow the same protocol and procedures as outlined in the new bylaws.
N.B. If the two societies fail to reach agreement in Goa, and agreement is not likely to occur with further meetings then both societies will proceed to organize their own meetings independently on alternate years during the months of Sept to Nov: ASAMI&BR on even years and ILLRS on odd years.

Gentlemen, I have tried very hard to find a middle ground that will maximize  success at achieving a reunification. I also feel that the compromise proposed above, improves the current situation by removing competition on the same year. If we fail to unite at least we will not be holding our meetings on the same years. This would enable those interested to attend both meetings.

I currently have a reservation for our meeting at the Fountainbleu Hotel in Miami Beach, Sept 25-27, 2014. They will allow me to change this to one year later up until Feb 15. I must have your answer to my proposal before then if I am to change the date.

Dror Paley
