Hey,
I've attached a list of architects we can contact for the proposal.
I looked for companies which seem inclined towards sustainability and green ideas. If anyone can add on to this list, please do so.
The ones that are in red are people I know and can contact.
I will need some more time to contact those whom I know. I will get back to you about them by the weekend.

There is this thing called the Indian Institute of Architects which is a national body of practicing architects. They have a Chennai chapter, but their website wasn't opening for me for some reason. If someone can, please look them up.

I spoke to this architect friend of mine who told me that it is going to be difficult to get companies to do this without payment. Since this was thrust on us by the corporation, can't we ask them to fund the proposal?

Hi Shankari,

Could you re-attach the file as a regular .doc file? I can't open the .docx files.

Thanks,

guys,

We can approach the architects forum as Tara Murali had suggested and get this done for free.Corporation will not pay for this.

I will talk to Tara and get back to you in a day or two.

what do you guys want architects' assistance for? if it is for bin design, architects will not be of any use. if it is for spatial planning -- where should the play area be, vendors, toilet locations etc, then arch's will help.

bin design they wont be any use? Toilet design as well? who do you think are the best people to talk to then? Someone who can comment on what is he best design, give costings of the materials to be used, draw out the specs of the bins and toilets etc?

Spatial planning we dont really need, we have our own input on that.

I would still suggest talking to a few architects. Such designs coming from architects will have more value with the corporation.

they will certainly be able to help with toilet design, not bin design.

hi,

i think for bin design product design/engineering firms would help. Also, I think because we are in control of the design why not let it be bit ambitious. like insisting the corporation on source segregation, having two containers for organic(decomposable) and  inorganic waste. I have attached a guideline doc i prepared, we can approach architects/designers with this document. Please read and comment.

PFA, something i found regarding public toilets in Bangalore.

sulabh international has an office in besant nagar, and they are very experienced in toilet design and maintenance. as for the bins, i think sreejith is right -- product design, creative design, and engineering design professionals would be better placed to help.

From what I understand is that Sulabh's toilets requires manual cleaning .. considering the number of beach users using the toilets, we need to have a look at a design which has a timed cleaning mechanism, if you want the toilets to be effective and useable.Ofocurse, it is worth exploring..

Guys, please do let me know how I can be of help. This is definitely one of my dreams as well to see a clean beach and to see the sands free of the smell of urine. I dont want to interfere in every thought of yours, but am willing to offer my help to the best of my capabilities, knowledge and time.

hi guys,

i agree with sreejith that a product designer would be more helpful with the dustbins, and an architect wil be helpful for us woth the toilets.

i jus spoke to a young architect (ar. Abhishek Singiri,) who practices. He is willing to do it free of cost. I told him i'l let him know. He wanted details, for which i said i'd inform him later about it.  If u guys are okay with it, v can call him for a meeting n talk to him. Or maybe shankari or one of you who r completely informed about the proposal can talk to him on the phone.

Cheers,
