The Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) is envisioned to provide high school students with a unique opportunity to acquire leadership skills in a professional environment. The program will focus on aiding students to learn about the industries that are imperative to our local economy with an education-based experience to inspire our future leaders. Composed of six (6) monthly informative sessions, the program exposes students to the major industries within the 35th Congressional District. Students will learn about transportation challenges, trade, education, law enforcement, health care, government, and the legislative process.

Norma Sarofiem has been accepted into the Stevens Institute Summer Program and awarded a full scholarship to participate in the Data Science for Social Policy program. According to Stevens, the course will explore "the unique challenges to policymakers, courts, and citizens alike" in the areas of cyber security and technology. Students will "explore these issues through a variety of hands-on activities...to think about how law, government, and technology affect their daily lives." Congratulations and best of luck to Norma.

Norma Minkoff joined the ODP in 2019. As a Public Health Analyst, she supports activities for several strategic priorities, including analysis of NIH investments in prevention research and the promotion of the best available methods in research.

Ms. Minkoff has more than 25 years of comprehensive experience administering health research programs for observational and clinical research studies. With a focus on data quality assurance, she has managed field and site staff activities of ongoing collection and processing of associated data. Before joining the ODP, Ms. Minkoff supported program officials at several NIH Institutes, Centers, and Offices and investigators with ongoing inclusion of human subjects data for the National Institute of Mental Health Data Archive.

Ms. Minkoff earned her M.S. in health sciences (with a focus on clinical research administration) from The George Washington University, and her B.A. in computer science from Plattsburgh State University of New York.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, July 13, 2023, at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City with Rev. Scott Squires officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.

Norma Jean, the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Jones) Carr, was born February 4, 1923, in Allen, NE. Norma was raised in Allen and graduated from Allen High School. She furthered her education by taking teacher training through the normal school program and then taught in a one-room country school near Allen.

Norma was a member of Crescent Park United Methodist Church, Sioux City Evening Lions Club, and American Dental Assistant Association. She had many hobbies including: gardening where she received her Master Gardener Certificate, canvas painting, sewing, and playing the piano. Throughout the years, Norma and Earl enjoyed traveling. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.

Character education, specifically faith-based character education, can provide a social, emotional, and academic benefit for students. Through this study, I wanted to take the first step: to design an Islamic character education program collaboratively with all stakeholders of the school. This study used participatory action research as a methodology. The first purpose was for administrators, teachers, parents, students, and community members at an Islamic school in Louisville, KY to collaborate to brainstorm the goals of a character education program at HIRA Institute using the Nominal Group Technique. The second purpose was, based on these goals, how can the strategies of a character education program be creatively developed by administrators, teachers, parents, students, and community members at HIRA Institute using the Future Creating Workshop. The goals and strategies provided a framework of a character education program at HIRA Institute.

TELEPRACTICE: Telepractice is the use of live-streaming to provide speech therapy, linking clinicians to clients who are an appropriate fit for this model. Telepractice is shown to be as effective as in-person consultation. Clinicians must follow the same Code of Ethics and Scope of Practice in Speech-Language Pathology, as well as state and federal laws. To participate, clients should have a device with camera and microphone, and reliable internet access. Clients who are under the age of 18 must have an adult present. Adult clients who would benefit from guided support should also have another adult present to help. See more HERE.

All can apply for services; no referral is required. Please note as a training program, we schedule clients within our semester terms of fall, spring, and shortened, very limited, summer clinic. Clients are scheduled for evaluations according to graduate clinicians' training needs and then in the order they are recieved. We typically evaluate one term and if we're recommending treatment at our clinic, then clients are on the waiting list for the next term. As with evaluations, therapy clients are scheduled according to training clinicians' needs.

If you are referred for therapy services at the Rees Clinic after the evaluation, a scheduling form will be provided for the next available session, during which a clinician and supervisor will be matched to the client.

MB1099, the Rees clinical suite, is located in the Music Building on the Cal State East Bay, Hayward campus. The MB is on the north side of campus, most easily accessed from Carlos Bee Blvd. Parking fees apply, including for those displaying a handicap placard.

During the academic year, the clinic runs on a donation basis. Nominal materials fees are charged for evaluations and treatment. Payments can be made by cash, check, or credit card, and are accepted when services are provided.

Our clinic offers sessions during the Fall and Spring semesters of Cal State East Bay's academic year. Clients are typically seen either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday for 50 minutes. Our first appointments start at 9:00 a.m. and last appointments at 4:00 p.m., though we occasionally are open until 7:00 p.m. Please note that the clinic remains open for many typical school closures.

The Norma S. and Ray R. Rees Speech, Language and Hearing Clinic at Cal State East Bay is a teaching clinic for students who are preparing for careers in Speech-Language Pathology. All clinical procedures are conducted by students under the supervision of certified and licensed professionals.

Our clinic provides speech and language evaluations and treatment, including the development of home programs. Treatment may be provided in individual, paired, or group sessions. We serve clients with communication problems associated with stroke, developmental delays, autism, hearing loss, stuttering, cognition impairment, articulation, the voice, and others.

We provide services for all age groups, ranging from preschool to senior citizens. Services are scheduled without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, age, gender, gender identity/expression, sexual orientation, genetic information, medical condition, marital status, veteran status, or disability. The Newborn Screening Program at Wadsworth Center tests for over 40 genetic disorders in newborns. Infants who have one of several rare genetic disorders and infants who have been exposed to HIV are identified promptly; with medical treatment serious disease can often be prevented. One of the tests is molecular detection of cystic fibrosis (CF) by screening for a mutation panel in the CFTR gene. Certain mutations in this gene cause severe phenotype and are well-defined. The gold standard for a CF diagnosis is a sweat chloride test.
