Hey man if I read it correctly you basically made a W10 VM, converted it into a .VHD then placed the file in a Ventoy USB? My Framework is arriving soon and was wondering how I would update my SN850 without installing windows.

When I elect to install windows, the install manager gets to its reboot phase and the following happens. 1.Reboot 2.Boots to Ventoy USB 3.No matter the mode it boots back to the beginning of the installation.

I have a question (or few) for booting a windows 7 ISO from a Ventoy prepped USB 3 SSD..please take 'note' that i am a novice/noob when it comes to booting SSD with Ventoy ,Clover EFI or other USB boot managers in general ; How may i add windows 7 iso so that it will boot to the windows setup environment without errors(i have heard that running a Ventoy VHD plugin may work for a "VHD" version of windows setup iso but i am unsure how to do this procedure;also winsetupfromusb app has "IMDISK" ram-disk app capabilities that ventoy does NOT so i am even more confused... ...maybe it is not needed in Ventoy ??)

So the workaround here is to do native VHDX boot from the Windows Boot Manager that is directly booted from UEFI without using Ventoy. In essence, when the UEFI Firmware starts, we have two entries, one to boot into Ventoy, and the other to boot the windows bootloader which can handle encrypted VHDX properly.

Then we need to create an EFI System partition which will hold the windows boot files. Right-click on the unallocated disk space > New Simple Volume. We need to format the partition as a FAT32 filesystem.

With Rufus you can choose mbr and bios. I think Ventoy defaults to gpt and uefi which makes it unusable for installing windows 11 on older computers, which ironically are the ones that need this functionality the most.

I made a home server out of scrap pc parts, which is currently using windows 10 pro. However everywhere I look about servers it always says that "if you use windows you're leaving performance on the table", and it seems that learning linux is helpful down the road.
