Extremely slow response

I just installed the reCAPTCHA plugin on our Wordpress 2.7 install on
our test server. When I post a comment and enter both a correct and
incorrect captcha, it takes EXTREMELY long to get a response - 2 to 3
minutes! Network problem? I'm assuming this may have to talk to a
server outside of our network, may that be an issue?

Thanks for your help.

We don't have any network issues at this time. You might want to do a tcpdump to look at the traffic, which should help figure out where the slowdown is.

Thanks. What server should I test against?

Just take a look at what happens when you submit a comment.

Hi, I am also seeing very slow response -- 30 seconds -- at 2:57 PM
Pacific on Tue Jan 20, 2009. The speed was normal a few weeks ago (the
last time I checked) and my code has not changed. Can you please
provide more details about how to use tcpdump to determine where the
problem lies?

On your web server, run as root:

tcpdump -s 10000 -w my_tcp_output

Make the request that is slow, and then press control-c. Email my_tcp_output to sup...@recaptcha.net. Please note that any clear text that goes over your server's ethernet interface during the time tcpdump is running will be included in the output.

Thanks, Ben -- I get:

tcpdump: WARNING: arptype 65535 not supported by libpcap - falling
back to cooked socket
Couldn't find user 'pcap'

Hi,

Did you manage to solve the slow response issue? I have a fast response on one server, but the other one also takes 3mins.

Thanks
