I've been using this site http://superuser.com/ and whenever it asks me to verify that I'm a human it shows me a captcha form.

These are waaay too complicated. I have to refresh 3 or 4 times to see some text that's not completely warped beyond recognition. So I've suffered through it time and time again. Possibly in the last 6 months or a year they've gotten more complicated. I just tried to use the audio feature and it's like the words are playing backwards. Can you guys please make these things less of a pain? For arguments sake, captcha may turn away spammers but now I'm starting to hate going to sites that use it.

I totally agree...I haven' posted on my site yet because every site I find it on I have difficulty reading it and getting it to accept my entry - so why make depressed people go through this?

I have the same feeling - the words have definitely become more contorted and difficult to read over the last 6 months or a year. I am probably going to abandon the service on my websites and use something else.

I have the same complaint, as do all my friends (the three or so who've mentioned anything about reCAPTCHA). They're excessively distorted. I just failed my third try. It's ridiculous!

I came across another one today and had an idea. I think when we come across another distorted image we should take screen shots. We can post them here (thread or forum).

FYI For Mac you can take a screen shot with CMD + SHIFT + 4. That will change the cursor to a cross-hair. Then hold the mouse down and drag a rectangle around the area you want to capture. When you release the mouse it will make a snapshot sound and the image will appear on the desktop. I'm not sure what the Windows snapshot option is.

FYI, that's exactly what spammers do. Get a copy of the reCAPTCHA
image, post them somewhere else for others to solve, and then send the
solution back to reCAPTCHA for validation.

Obviously, their methods are far superior than yours (most likely
fully automated) and has been proven effective to bypass any kind of
CAPTCHA (not just reCAPTCHA).

You can hit the Print Screen key to take a screen shot in Windows, or
use the built-in Snipping Tool.

Oh. I didn't know that. It kind of defeats the purpose. I mentioned it because I was thinking of taking screen shots to display how difficult they've gotten. If someone at the captcha company is reading this thread they could see for themselves how much of an issue it has become.

Yeah Captcha tends to be a big fat pain in the backside. I found one nice Captcha site that makes really simple and effective Captcha but for some reason not many companies are using it.

Agreed. Captcha have gone way overboard, and is bothering more people than it is helping.

I'm not sure yet but they seem to be a tad bit more legible in the last few weeks.

However if they're not I suggest maybe contacting the site owners and letting them know when it's difficult to read it's preventing people from using their site.

It would be nice if the Captcha people would at least respond one way or another rather than say nothing.

Totally agree. It's no longer even a turing test.
