Obviously they've been getting harder over the years, but it's really become a joke now. Half of the "words" being served up lately don't resemble anything at all, just bits of black blobs.

The images are unreadable- many many reloads are required to be able to get something vaguely decipherable.

If this is what is required to frustrate spambots- then perhaps this type of product has passed its useful lifespan.

Where can product issues be addressed if this is not the right place? Stating this is not the correct place without providing appropriate re-direction is not at all useful (much like the current recaptcha product apparently).

If you're referring to this:
reCAPTCHA Forum -- for help installing & configuring reCAPTCHA

Then yes, you are at the right place. Problem is, the issue on this
thread is neither installation nor configuration of reCAPTCHA.

ok, so where do we post our complaints? Everytime I have to go through a captcha I can read 1 word and the other is just a mess of crap that is unreadable.
where do I complain!

I agree the reCaptchas are becoming more difficult to read and refreshing them is also a problem because many of them are blobs of unreadable text. This has made it very difficult for some site owners who use reCaptcha as part of their registration process. It discourages real people if they can't read the blobs.

Very nice, Adrian. I lol'd
;o)

The newest strange reCAPTCHA that I saw (today) had three (yes, 3) parts. It was a four digit number, a space, then another four digit number, a space, then a word. Perhaps the four digit number was an eight digit number? But why the equidistant spacing between all 3 strings? I should have taken a screen shot (yes, I realize, no meme generator required, "picture or it didn't happen"). Just an FYI. If I see it again, I WILL screen shoot it and post.

I know that there's a website where you post those funny and weird reCAPTCHAs. Can't remember what though, just Google away.

But this list isn't for those screenshots.

Actually, it's a just fine place to post about this.

The issue is clearly that the reCAPTCHA mechanism needs a "difficulty level" (or "mangling level") to allow the
programmer a method of specifying how hard the reCAPTCHA's mangled word should be.

Once such a mechanism exists, *and only then*, posts like the OP's can be properly dismissed as in "the  wrong place".

OP: you're darn right!  They're *far* too difficult.

I don't understand your logic.

**

You go to a bank, you say, "Give me money", bank say "We can't help
you, go somewhere else", you say "Until you can give me money, I will
keep coming here for nothing".

And then when they finally have a solution:

You go to a bank, you say, "Give me money", bank say "Yes we can help
you, but you're in the wrong place", you say "Err...".

**

Once such mechanism exist, I will gladly help any site owner who needs
help with making the challenge harder/easier. *And only then*, posts
like OP's will *not* be dismissed as in "the wrong place".

Ok Godong.  So what will it take to get that 'mechanism' in existence... a complete boycott of sites who use reCAPTCHAs?  If I could do that now, I would.  We're all hostages.  Talk to your superiors about providing a forum for people who actually have to use reCAPTCHAs, would you?  I think they will find the posts there quite enlightening.

You can't be serious.  This was meant as a joke... right?  Well, these reCAPTCHAs are not a laughing matter to most of us.  Posting at memegenerator will certainly evoke allot of commiseration from everyone who sees them, but it is not the forum to get anything done about the problem, since no-one there is responsible for creating them.

If you have problems with it, tell the site owners to remove/change
it. They probably won't listen to you because this is a typical
spammer request.

This wasn't a joke. I told you that this forum is not for feedback and
AFAIK, Google does not have an official channel for feedback.

I am NOT in search of a funny place to post weird reCAPTCHA's. I am not amused at being told to "just Google away", particularly here. I was trying to be congenial. I am sorry, I should have been more direct. This is the issue:
  1. I received a CAPTCHA challenge that had not two, but three alphanumeric strings. I have observed this behavior on more than one occasion. But only recently.
  2. I wish to inform someone who administers reCAPTCHA for Google, as there should be TWO, not THREE (or any other number of) components in a CAPTCHA. Or so I thought.
Before initiating my inquiry, I visited the official Google reCAPTCHA blog. I read every post. I clicked every link. I read the paper describing CAPTCHA in Science. I read the history of reCAPTCHA as CAPTCHA in its prior life at Carnegie Mellon University. I read about OCR and Google Books. I learned many things. I did not find anything that indicated that a 3-part reCAPTCHA is within the range of normal functionality for reCAPTCHA's, nor does it seem correct given the algorithm that reCAPTCHA is based upon.

What is the correct response to a 3-part reCAPTCHA? I refresh the challenge, and usually get any of the following unreadable, or unreproducible reCAPTCHA challenge content: Greek letters; astronomical symbols used in the Middle Ages; a glob of smeared characters full of overlapping medial s's; parts of fuzzy photographs with house numbers, etc. I realize that you said that this was not the place for such concerns, though I wish there were such a place. However, a three part reCAPTCHA just should not happen, should it? And more relevant to me, is this: How do I solve it correctly?

To solve it correctly, just enter the letters that you can read -- not
necessarily all of the letters in the image.

If you have read thoroughly, there should be "two" parts, one known
and one unknown. The unknown part can be anything -- greek letters,
equations, spaces to make it look like three parts, etc --, and
anything should be an acceptable answer even an empty string. Just
keep your focus on the known part. Even for the known part, reCAPTCHA
is known to allow one or two letters off from the correct answer to
help with real human. Most complainers didn't even try to submit their
answer until they can read everything (sort of behaving like a bot,
all have to be correct before submitting the answer or this image is
not solvable, keep refreshing).

Actually I use recaptcha but have learned it's useless against spammer and programs that are designed to spam or to automate a functions on your site that are protected by a captcha. They simply use a third party site like deathbycaptcha and the captcha's are solved by OCR or even people in third world countries very cheap. What I have found the best way is to make something very simple like a task and only have it for your self so it prevent beginners from easily using a third party site to solve it. The recaptcha only stops noobs not spammers good luck and I hope my new method will be very hard to solve but it's very simple.
