reCAPTCHA is GD annoying

OK. I don't mind the idea of a captcha. I've used them for as long
as they've been around. But whenever I see the reCaptcha one, I
groan, because I know I'm going to have to click through at least 10 -
20 of these inscrutable blots before I get to one where I can actually
decipher both collections of letters. I have good near field vision -
I just can't unscramble the great majority of these damned
reCaptchas. And please don't tell me to just listen instead, because
that's like listening to complete crap - I can't figure out what I'm
supposed to type. So come on guys: Is this the best you can do? I've
been prevented from submitting a number of forms - legitimately -
because I just find reCaptch too bloody indecipherable. Other
captchas are not nearly so annoying.

Is what you have created really what Alan Turing had in mind?

I don't know what your problem is, but I am almost blind, and I listen to
them all the time. So, you must not really pay attention to the audio. I
have no problem understanding them most of the time.
it's pretty straight forward. You type exactly what you hear. How hard is
that to understand?

Will - Do you think I would have written what I did if I found the audio that easy to understand?  But I'd really like the recaptchs themselves to be easy for humans to read as other captchas.  I have vision correctable to 20/20, and don't need any reading glasses, yet I'm stumped by most to these reCaptchas.  

Telling me to try harder isn't going to fix the core problem: most of the reCaptchas are simply too difficult to easily recognize.  Unless I absolutely have to fill out that form, I simply give up and move on.  I may start writing the site owners and ask them to use captchas that are easier for humans to decipher.

Not at all. And reCAPTCHA is not difficult to use - neither the visual, or aural, one.

It's just that the vast majority of people who come on here complaining about captchas in general, or reCAPTCHA specifically /are/ spammers.

Complaining on here about reCAPTCHA is a pointless exercise since this forum is for (non-Google) developers who (want to) use reCAPTCHA on their own sites, not users who have 'problems' with reCAPTCHA.
