The iFrame call works, but the subsequent javascript calls are failing with a 404 result, rendering the recaptcha functions unusable, and our sites are broken.

What returns a 404:
http://www.google.com/recaptcha/api/js/recaptcha_1-e3a660e7_c1849509_ebefbc3e_56669459_c27efc52.js

Everything in the following script sample loads fine.. both the .JS and the iFrame content. But the .js calling another javascript through AJAX is choking.

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.google.com/recaptcha/api/challenge?k=6LeIr8sSAAAAAI-N1R5wWWbsay7Ivgqyfpx9Z30o"></script>
<noscript>
<iframe src="http://www.google.com/recaptcha/api/noscript?k=6LeIr8sSAAAAAI-N1R5wWWbsay7Ivgqyfpx9Z30o" height="300" width="500" frameborder="0"></iframe><br>
<textarea name="recaptcha_challenge_field" rows="3" cols="40">
</textarea>
<input type="hidden" name="recaptcha_response_field" value="manual_challenge">
</noscript>

Yes the whole Captcha is down, I looked at the API http://www.google.com/recaptcha/api and it says 404 not found. Is there any direct emails to contact them with?

I notice it comes up for a few seconds then goes back down, can't wait to start using my custom captcha and not recaptcha it actually goes down a lot for short bursts. It's useless anyways against deathbycaptcha you guys may want to start looking at a new solution.

Down for me, as well (Florida). Been trying to register for Wordpress.org and thought it was THEM, until I realized thy are using the reCaptcha API, as well. Grrr... so frustrating. Is there anywhere else to look for updates or known issues related to this?

Heh, I should have checked this website first, I just spent the past hour going through all my code and renewing my captcha keys. Silly me.

For once it wasn't me!!!

Any chance someone has a link to the terms on this?  I wonder if Google will even dig into this...  Obviously it hasn't merited a reply yet an it has been down for coming up on 4 hours now.

Anyone know if there is a way to monitor the health of the recaptcha service?

Honestly the best way is to handle exceptions and bypass when they are encountered.  You're going to do mock recaptcha calls to monitor the service, and if you're going to do that, you might as well make the calls from your site monitor it and allow for bypass when it is down.

I'm still getting a 404 error.  Is anyone else seeing this?

The demo site posted in the screen shot also gives me a 404 error as well.

It looks like this works..

Is google trying to move everyone to this new format?

Is there any documentation on this?

Thanks!

Tom
