Does anyone have any stories of Elektra Beckum equipment ? Or has anyone used
Elektra saws either successfully or unsuccessfully ?

I've been looking towards buying a small portable table saw ans the Elektra
PK200 looks to fit th ebill, but I've heard rumours from a reasonably reliable
source that Elektra's service backup is pretty poor.

Ideally I want a very small table saw, which can be stowed away in the corner
of the (very small) shop, but which I can buy a host of addons to turn it into
a respectable piece of kit.

I really like the Makita 2702, but like the sliding carriage and extension
support table features offered by the PK200 as optional extras.

Dear Paul

Elektra is made in Germany and is better than most American stuff. The
service might be poor, you are right. If you want a very good German
portable saw,(much better than Elektra) you should take a look to the
"Erika" from Mafell. They deliver the saw to America too and I own one since
years. Most cabinetmakers and carpenters in Europe have got this saw and are
very satisfied. It is very precis. A more precis, but also movable saw comes
from Metabo. A very , very good saw!The best available in Europe.....

You should tale a look to the companies in Internet: METABO and MAFELL.
(Forget the Mafell Monika, it is not a good saw, look for Erika) Alternativ:
Search for the trade mark ELU . A swiss daughter of Black&Decker.

Any questions?

I've had an Elektra dimensioning saw for 7/8 years now, complete with
sliding and extension tables. It's a delight to use, very precise, plenty
of horse-power. I wouldn't worry too much about service. My saw has
required none to date.

I also have one of their planer/thicknessers and only problem to date was
the thicknesser bed height adjustment chain jumping out of the sprockets.
Wasn't too hard to fix.

I would categorise Elektra products by saying they were no-nonsense, no
frills, solid and workman like.

Elektra Beckum bankrupcy

The company does not exist any more since a couple of days. It has been
bought by METABO which is Europes largest manufacturer for powertools and
light machines. Probably they stop the trademark.

Buy Metabo, when available , it is much more precis than Elektra. The
service is much better too.

Need more Info about European powertools and machines? Mail me.

They have some good stuff - watch out though as they have just gone
bankrupt and been taken over by Metabo - I would let the dust
settle before I made any major purchases of their kit. If Metabo intend
to fully support their previous lines, then they deserve serious
consideration.
