I'm looking for some help dating some Atkins saws. I've googled and
come up with this site:
http://www.geocities.com/mvr1.geo/atkinssaws.html
and have searched Patrick Leach's site, the Electronic Neanderthal
(and sites linked there) but have come up with little information.
Being new at the vintage tool thing, any advice would be helpful.
Here's what I have. Two saws, both the a skew back. First one is 10
tpi, 24" blade. Button on the handle says "Warrented Superior". I
can make out some of the remains of the etching on the saw blade. It
reads (in part) "E. C. Atkins & Co. Silver Steel Warrented
Indianapolis, IND...Made in U.S.A...Patended July...NO. 51" In
cursive writing, I can make out "This saw made of our Silver Steel is
perfect in ...and durability" That's what I can make out. I cannot
make out any wrting on the blade of the second saw, but it is 10 tpi,
22 1/2" blade and the button on the handle reads "E. C. Atkins & Co.
Pat. Dec. 27 1887 Indianapolis IND."
Handles are in good shape on both. Blades have a very small bit of
rust near the teeth. Oh yeah, found them at an estate sale. Paid
$3.00 for both.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thank Stuart, I've done a bit of reading on that site. Lots of
information (especially about Disston) but not much specific on
Atkins. I'll keep looking. I'm debating if and how to clean the
saws. I'm guessing they are not worth much and they will be users for
me, but just in case I'm waiting to do any restoration until I get
some more information.
