I've narrowed my choice of a 6" jointer to either the Grizzly 1182Z or the
Delta 37-195 model, and am now seeking advice from fellow woodworkers. Both
are nearly the same in price/features I've previously used a friend's Delta
37-190 jointer and found it to be very easy to use, etc., however, I have no
experience with Grizzly tools. Any comments on either regarding ease of
use/setup, reliability, etc. would be appreciated. Also, does the Delta
37-195 have an adjustable outfeed table? Thanks for any
help/advice/suggestions,
Casey
Layne
The G1182 is one of three major Grizzly tools I have and I am well
satisfied with it.

I installed a 37-195 about 3 weeks ago,,, very nice machine..
1. Easy to setup
2. Heavy as a mud fence
3. Required almost no adjustments
4. Fence is straight
5. Bed is flat
6. Yes, you can adjust both infeed and outfeed quite easily...
7. Very quite
8. Requires more room away from wall because of rack & pinion fence...
9. It joints an edge (as a side benefit)

I bought a Grizzly Oscillating spindle sander. It developed a small oil leak which took 2 trips to
Grizzly to fix. It was no ones fault that it took 2 tries. One of those leaks... All I can say is
Grizzly bent over backwards to correct this leak at NO expense to me... The paid the freight both
times from NH to PA. Did the repairs and sent it back within 10 days, and what I now have is an
excellent Oscillating spindle sander that I know is 100% machanically...... This sander is a hell
of a value as is most Grizzly tools..... I'll admit I have mostly Delta tools and have had problems
with them as well.... Delta will send you parts or tell you to lug it into a service center......
Grizzly will send UPS for the unit if you don't want to take it to UPS...... Try that with Delta..
It's really annoying to get a defective product, even more annoying if you paid a premium price for
that product, but it sure is nice when theres someone trying their absolute best to make it right
for you, and Grizzly will make it right for you...... Bo and Jason at Grizzly tech support are the
best..... They did right by me...... I'd buy Grizzly again without thinking twice......
Brian..........
There is no mix up a sander can't fix up !!!

Just curious Steve, What kind of trouble are you having with the shaper ????
I can pretty much second what Brian wrote above. After a great deal of
thought, etc. I bought the Grizzly 1022Z table saw. Putting it together
wasa no-brainer...yes, the motor wiring diagram was missing. One E-mail
later, I had the pdf diagram in hand. Unfortunately, I could not get
the blade to be vertical...it was shy by 2-3 degrees (recall a post by
an owner of a Sears saw with a similar problem?). It had nothing to do
with the stop screw. The table top with cabinet is back at Grizzly at
their expense. I have no doubt that Tom and Bo (and Andrea in Customer
Service) will ensure that I have a table saw that works like it should.
I have no experience with any other manufacturer of large tools.
However, Grizzly has earned my trust so far. Naturally, one can argue
that I might not have had that problem with a similar purchase from
another manufacturer (read Delta or Jet). But, that is not an absolute
certainty either at costs of $200 to $275 more than what I paid. I have
no problem with my decision and would probably do the same if I had to
do it over again.

As far as the comment on resale value goes, I'd say you'll lose money on
anything you resell from new, (in the "hunk of iron category, anyway".) I
bought my Lagina LT16SEC from a guy who was buying an LT18, and paid $1000.00
US for it. A $2000 bandsaw with about 5 hours on it. I'd always look for used,
properly cared fo machinery. My 1182Z is already spoken for at $300.00 (with
HTC mobile base) to a friend, once my Bridgewood 8" unit arrives. The reason
for selling the Grizzly machine would be - 1. not enough width, need the extra
2", I make shaker tables, and alot of table tops. 2. Yes, I want the handwheel
adjust feature. But Grizzly still offers the greatest value and quality service
for a lower priced machine.

I would expect the more expensive jointers to be better in general but there
are certainly a LOT of models within $100 of each other. I'm looking to get
something that will be good enough for general indoor furniture (entertainment
center, shelving units, etc) but it certainly won't get "heavy" useage.
Any suggestions? Please?
Thanks,
Jim

BTW, before you buy the Grizzly ask them about their return policy.

I have the D-195 and love it. After rebate I paid about $450, delivered. I
would have preferred handwheels, but this is a solid, straight, powerful
machine and the lever works just fine.
