Turps or mineral turps.
Metho is methylated spirit (of wine) - ethyl alcohol, denatured with
methyl alcohol.
True turpentine is usualy called spirit of turpentine or gum
turpentine. Much more expensive.
Kerosene (Pommy paraffin) is a slighltly heavier version and white
spirit or lighter fluid is a slightly lighter version. Pure motor
spirit - petrol or gasoline is also a slightly lighter version.

Mineral Turps. You can try the Gum Turps stuff too, smells a LOT
better and is a little bit more enviro-friendly when it comes time to
shove the residue down the gurgler.

Standard paint thinner. Whatever normally use to thin oil based paint
and clean your brushes with.

David.

*Fosters* who drinks that cats piss!!!!
bout all it is really good for is poisoning selling to tourist that think it
is a great aussie beer why do you think we export it.
Steve Walker
Steve - first of all, I believe if you'd read the FAQ, you would have
seen that I am in charge of asking the group's rhetorical questions, and
don't ask who put me in charge, that's one of the questions I'm in
charge of asking
But since you did ask, the only reason I can think of for exporting your
beer is so you can get enough hard currency to buy our tools. Does it
work? (he asked rhetorically)
That's precisely the same reason we let the Kiwi's sell us their nine
year old sheep as spring lamb <VBG>
BTW, please don't take me seriously, I don't...
G'day Mate,
Rob Weaver
Since nobody else is in a serious mood I'll add to your post. I am Canadian
and have always wondered what mineral spirits are too. Do American hardware
stores sell containers with the words "mineral spirits" on them? Obviously
they must but in Canada it is not common. We can buy "paint thinner" or
"varsol". I use either for thinning and cleanup of urethane, oil paint,
stain, etc... Varsol seems to clean up brushes better so I have been using
that everywhere directions on American products say "mineral spirits". I
have had no problems.
Hope this helps,
