I'm not sure what is on the Cargo furniture, but I have used a mixture of thinned
polyurethane on yellow pine with a fair amount of success. I take a pint peanut
butter jar and fill it about a third of the way with polyurethane and then about
another third or half with mineral spirits. I shake this mixture up to mix it well.
I take a bristle brush and literlly slop it all over the wood. If I could dunk the
wood into this mixture I would, but I generally end up drowning the surface with
this thinned polyurethane. If one spot seems to be soaking up more than usual, I
put more on until I can see a shiny surface over the area where I am working. This
sits for about 3-5 minutes and I wipe it off and move on to another part of the
project until the whole thing has had a good drenching. The project then dries for
half an hour, and I repeat the process. I generally put 3-7 coats on, depending
upon the wood, and how much of this mixture is absorbed (or until I get bored). I
then let it dry overnight. The next day I take Johnson's paste floor wax and smear
a coat of that on and let it dry before buffing it out. I generally end up with a
beautiful luster and a long wearing finish.
Hope this helps,
Chuck
