I was planning to make the corner cupboard our of Norm Abram's Mostly
Shaker book. In the plans he uses a stacked dado at a 22.5 degree angle.
I assume that this is what the instructions don't want me to do???
Also, I was sold an 8" Delta stacked dado set when I bought the saw? I'm
assuming Delta intended this dado set to be used with the Contractor's
saw........I don't even think they make a 6" stacked dado. Is it
dangerous to use an 8" stacked dado set with Delta's 10" Contractor's
saw?
Thanks,
Bill

Go ahead and do it. It's not any more dangerous than using a dado vertically.
Delta is trying to cover it's ass, like everybody else.

Some say a contractor's saw doesn't have enough power to spin an 8" dado, but
I think that's silly - just don't take deep passes. See above remarks about
Delta.

Hope this helps.

It's not dangerous to yourself to use an 8" dado on a contractors type
saw. I say this because I have used a 8" stacked dado myself on the saw and
am still here to write about it. Not because I am a safety engineer or
someone who wants to open himself up to a lawsuit. If you have different
results than I have that's you're problem should of done what Delta didn't
tell you when you first bought the saw.
You will however terminate your Delta warranty the moment you crank
that 8" blade up. The problem is that the weight of the Dado set and the
speed is likely to bend the arbor a little bit. If I had to pick an arbor to
put an 8" on though it would be a Delta. Several weeks ago somebody was
talking about putting an 8" dado on a Ryobi and I told them not to and they
did and bent their arbor. I bet they bent it pretty good too in order to
notice it. I haven't noticed any problems with mine.
I myself am a little tweeked about this as I did not find out about
that little "fine print" until after I had bought an 8" dado and used it.
Wether or not it's dangerous to tilt a dado set in that saw I don't
know. I would think it was better to tilt the wood though. Delta's Tenoning
Jig is very good and can be made to do compound angles.
