Ladies and Gents,

does anybody use Delta 10" bench (table) saw - what's your opinion about the
tool?

Thank you.

Had one for about four months before I promptly upgraded to the Delta Platinum
Edition CS. Lack of a convenient way to make zero clearance inserts and a
precarious dado blade setup really forced the decision for me. I think anyone
who does woodworking for a while ends up with a Contractor Saw or better at
some point.

If all you want to do is cut a short board occassionally, it may be ok. The
table is not big enough for any serious work.....

It is very loud...the fence sucks.....

But then what do we expect for around $160 new?

I had one...got rid of it...got a DeWALT DW-746 table saw...now THAT"S a
SAW!

I've had mine for almost 3 years. It does the job, but setting up the
poorly designed fence, no zero clearance insert, lack of accessories that
properly work and a very "loud" noise level make setting up for your cuts
difficult. I'm going to the Grizzly cabinet saw next year. However, I've
used it and it's performed up to the standards of an *under $200* saw. For
what it's worth, Phil Laird has one in his shop and produces some of the
finest woodworking you can find in this newsgroup.

Hello again Jim. Your going from a bench saw to a cabinet saw? That is
going to be a real delight. Your first cuts are going to make you want to
cry with joy. Warn your wife that she is going to do a lot of rubbing her
finger up and down ... that piece...of wood you just cut... over and over
to remind her what a great saw you have. I just bought a new cabinet saw a
couple of weeks ago and my wife is now on piece # 387.

For the price, I think it's the best tool in my shop. That's not to say
there aren't shortcomings (some of which are listed above), but it
does everything I've asked of it, including a lot of ripping of 8/4
white oak without any "laboring" at all. The blade that comes
with the saw suits my needs perfectly.

I created a "zero-clearance" insert a week or two ago and posted
a drawing in the "pictures" newsgroup.

One shortcoming, not mentioned above, is the rather short arbor
which makes stacking more than about 3/8" dadoes impossible.

By the way, the "accessories" (outfeed roller, stand and bench
extension) contribute to my enthusiasm, especially since I got
a real bargain: The whole package for $139US (normally $199
at Lowe's or Home Depot).

I just got one (used) from a friend, and it needs a new part. The drive gear
that mounts on the motor shaft is stripped out, and I need a replacement.
Anyone know of an internet source for parts?? I would appreciate any help.
thanks ( by the way, the "driven" gear has 41 teeth and is approx. 1 9/16"
diameter, and the stripped "drive" gear.....I cannot count the teeth,
because they're all gone!!)

Can't help you out because, apparently, you have a different saw than
the Delta 10" BENCHTOP, model 36-540, that I'm using. This saw has
the arbor directly attached to the motor (no gears).

I have one. It was giving to me by an older guy. I've been using it for 7 years and had no problems. I've used the saw a lot, not just for little stuff. No complaints at all.

Then why are you seeking an opinion?

My opinion is, if it suites your needs it is a good saw.

Well, as long as it was given to you by an older guy, I would not trust
it if it were from a younger guy.

BUT an older guy may be giving away a problem tool to a rookie younger
guy. You never know. ;~)
