I haven't heard of the Shopline by Jet. How wide was the jointer? 3/4 HP
doesn't sound big enough for anything over a 4" capacity. I have a 6" Jet
that came with a 1 hp motor and I increased it to 1 1/2 hp after it burned
out. I do a lot of work with rough ash, oak, walnut, and maple so I stress
jointers and planes to the max. I would be real leery of a 3/4 horse
jointer.

I have this jointer, it's a 6" and works fine, it lacks some of the bells
and whistles but for only a few dollars more than some of the benchtop
modles out there it's a pretty good deal. I have not had any problems with
the power of the unit but all I've been doing is flattening some maple
boards and edge jointing them. Too bad they didn't put a wheel adjustment
on the infeed table, it's got the bumpandguess lever to adjust infeed
height. Strange they put a wheel adjustment on the outfeed table that you
seldom have to adjust???????OH yea, it's one HEAVY sob, very solid cast
iron.
Just MHO.

Delta's 6" model 37-190 is 3/4 hp, as is their 6" model DJ-15. Jet's 6"
model JSL-6J is 3/4 hp, as is the Powermatic 54, also a 6" model.
So apparently 3/4 hp is enough to power a 6" jointer.

I won't disagree with any of the above, but I looked over a
'Shopline' 10" TS at bLowes last weekend. I was impressed that
it had a cast iron top and trunion assembly. The miter gauge
and fence appeared to be well made, solid, and very
functional. The saw also has a leg set, two extension wings
and looks to be almost the same overall size as the Jet 10"
contactor's model. (Which is what I thought it was from a
distance.) It does have a 15 amp universal motor, however.
At any rate, if I was just startin' out and onna budget, I'd
take a long look at this one. On the surface, it appears to be
a lotta saw for just under $300. YMMV.
Cheers, Bob
Hope this helps,
