I'm thinking of getting an air compressor. I want
to get a vertical one to save floor space in my already
small 1-car garage/workshop.

I see sears has one - model no. 16523 - for $299.00
It claims to be 5.5hp and 25 gallon tank. I looked
it over and saw that it has a 15 amp motor. I guess
that means I'd have to run it on a 20A circuit, right?

Anyway, does anyone out there have one of these
beasts or any comments on it?

see it here:

For another $100 or so you can get a 6 HP 60 gal unit that will run
circles around the sears unit.
I had a similar Sears unit- conventional piston not diaphram, belt
driven.
and it was 30 gal portable. Worked Ok but ran out of steam with a linear
sander
or sand blaster.
I now have the Air America 6+HP 60 gal unit. Not sorry.
Mike
BTW be aware of Sears HP claims-peak HP.

That is just an oilless compressor
stuck on top of a big tank. it will be
noisey and take forever to fill it. wont
last too long either. Campell-Hausfied
sells a vertical one like this but uses
a real pump with a realistically rated
motor with belt drive that uses oil that
is just a few dollars more.they should
have a web site. I have seen this
compressor in some of my woodworking
tool supply catalogs but dont have one
here at the moment. good luck.

I bought one on a close-out deal... have had no problems in over 2 years of
use. It is definitely noisy. Sure would hate to use it for any continuous
work, slow to 'fill up'.

I have one of these, basically got it for 'free' (don't ask, its not a
pretty story). It does the job adequately for my small, household and
hobbyist needs. Its loud, and therefore lives in the room where my dust
collector lives. I piped an 'outlet' into the shop proper, and with
appropriate length hoses don't have any problems. When I upgrade, its
going to be a 'real' one.

Yep.. Have the same unit, and it does the trick for running nailers and
stuff. I primarily needed it for a vehicle restore that I was working
on over the summer.... I'll have to say, aside from the noise, it ran
all my air tools and performed pretty well. Would have liked the bigger
tank with the sandblaster and some of the die grinding, but it just took
me a bit longer. Does fine with the WW shop stuff tho.

I have one of these. I like it real well so far. My girlfriend gave it to
me for Christmas last year. It could use a bigger tank. I did have to change
my 15A breaker to a 20A.
