Hi folks

I am thinking of purchasing a table saw and the model I had in mind is the
Delta 36-320C saw. Delta pushes this as a contractor saw. The only bad
point about this unit it doesn't have a belt drive; it doesn't appear to be
direct drive either. Something else.

I cannot seem to find any info on it; not even on the delta web site. Does
anyone have any experience with this saw? It is priced at about $650CND;
about the price am want to spend at this time.

Couldn't find a reference in either the 2001 Workshop or Industrial
catalogs...

I think the "C" designates a Canadian model, which is probably an offshore
import.

So we are left to guess what the drive is? Maybe the "C"

designation means they'll supply small Chinese Children to
crank a hand wheel?

Might help to fill us in on where you found this. Might
also want to verify the model number.

See above.

Both Home Depot and The Building Box have it. I don't think the C means
crank though. They say it is belt driven in the docs but from what I can
see its certainly not the usual motor sticking out the back kinda belt
drive. Belt can only be a few inches long from my observations. The motor
(1.5hp I think) sits under the table.

What I found attractive about this model what the solid fence and the cast
extensions (vs lighter stamped thin gauge extensions)

I can also pick up a Jet 10" saw (part#250352) from All In One for $699.00.
Strangely I cannot find this model on their web site either. The dealer at
this store however was a bit of a know so I would rather not buy from him.

Am I to think we Canadians get our own "special" saws?

After seeing the Guelph made Unisaw that David Eisan has,
I'd have to say yes.

You can pick up a Delta 36-650C with cast iron extensions for $725.CDN at Ford
Machinery in Richmond Hill ie. if you're in the Greater Toronto Area. The local HD
and Lansing wanted $850. for it and both had to special order it!! The online
catalog description says it's got pressed steel extension but they come with cast
iron in Canada. The "C" designation is for Canada, eh.

I think you've got newer, homeowner grade saws in your stores. Far from the
top of the line, which would make 'em low priority on a website update. I'd
hazard a guess that the motor on the Delta is a universal, not induction,
and the belt is also like a vacuum cleaner belt. Wait, watch, save and move
up to induction motors and cast iron in your searches. Fewer regrets.

Unit has a belt that looks like short serpentine belt. I own this saw.

I had one given to Me for Father's day 20 years ago. The "c" stands for construction. I have had to replace the motor once and it is a very good entry level saw. I have cut a lot of hard wood with it and no complaints at all. Very heavy saw weights 260lbs. You wiĺl need help to take it off site...if you build a shop table that matches it's height you can rip 3/4 oak plywood by yourself.

Your saw is almost as old as the original post.

Hey Charles, the motor on this saw is belt driven, you have to remove the housing of the motor to reveal the belt, here is a site where you can look st the saw schematics...
