Who among you owns a King 6" Jointer, and what can you tell
me about it, Good, Bad, or Ugly
I am working on getting the model number so I can compare
apples to apples.
Thanks... Bill

I don't know anything about their jointer. I have the bandsaw and
and since it was a gift, I'm happy with it. If I had to buy it, I'd
rather spend the extra money on a Delta. As far as the Wood review,
King is only sold in Canada and therefore wouldn't be in an American
mag.

The newer models have a better fence, a knife set screws
which make setting up the cutter head much easier, and enclosed
base with a dust chute for about $100 more than the base model.

Bill I have one, unsure of the model number but it is their newest
release. (wife got it for me for christmas) It looks just like a Jet
except for switch placement. Tis the enclosed cabinet model. Capable
of rabetting. Very nice machine, lots of power, tables are true,
positicve locking on table adjustment. Parts are apparently
interchangeable with Jet (according to dealer). I would definetly do
it again.

1) The manual sucks big time. It was a poor quality photocopy. It was
also a little outdated. I wrote King and got no response. My buddy at the
tool shop tells me King still has not improved the manual any.
2) The fence sucks. While it is a long fence (good), it secures only on
the infeed table end and it tends to work itself loose. After some use
(maybe 5 or 6 passes), when I took a square to it, it was out!! You can't
put much force on it at all.
3) The gibs were crap. One broke appart on me while I was adjusting it.
The mettle was way too soft.
4) The outfeed table and the infeed table were not paralelle. I spent
hours trying to tune it up with only limited success. (See number 3 above)
5) It has no positive settings for 45 or 90.
6) I found it to be a little underpowered - I would get waivey knife marks
even on pine if I passed wood through at anything but the slowest rates.
7) The power cord was too short and of poor quality. I replaced my power
cord day 1.
8) The King design is virtually identical to some of the generic "no-name
brands" out there. I'm sure they come from the same Tiwanese manufacture.
9) I sold it and bought a Delta DJ-15. While the two are certainly not in
the same category, I found out that you are better off to wait until you can
afford one of better quality.
I guess the only positive comment I have on it is that it does have a fairly
long bed. Having said that, I have looked at their bandsaws and tablesaws
and they seem to look pretty damned good for the money.
Hope it helps.
