I'm planning on buying a 6 inch jointer at the Canadian homeworkshop
show in March at the international center. My question is, which one
should it be. I've decided on the jet 10 inch contractors saw but am not
so sure that I need to go to that quality for the jointer. I'm looking
for the best bang for my buck as they say. How much do I need to spend
(ie is $ 485 for the craftex vs. $ 700 + for the jet really a good
savings or should I bite the bullet and spend an extra $200) Any
suggestions from my Canadian wood working pals?
TIA
Cameron

There is a big difference between General and General International. General
is made in Drummondville Quebec and General International is made in Asia.
The list price for a Canadian made 6" General Jointer is $1490.00 Canadian
dollars, and depending on options, the price goes up from there.
Don't think you are buying Canadian made when you buy General International,
you might as well buy any other Asian made product, Delta, Jet, etc.
Thanks,
David.

I think it's because the jointer (or some part thereof) vibrates causing
the board to 'bounce'. What size (width) of link-belt are you using ?

I was getting some scalloping on my Delta 37-190 6" 3/4hp open stand jointer
when I had it set to take off less than a 1/32, I found by setting it to
1/16, all the problems went away. I guess I was trying to take off too
little.
Thanks,
David.
However when I researched my recent table saw purchase I found that Gen
International had several features spec'd into the finished product by
General that made it a very good purchase.
What? you say.
The motor, the table surface, the arbor locks, the "T" slot miter fence, the
"B" type fence included in the initial purchase.
Your mileage may vary.
