Hi-

I have a new Porter Cable 690 router (anniversary edition and separately
purchased plunge base) that I would like to mount in a router table.
Currently I have the Sears Craftsman industrial router table (aluminium
top, adjustable fence with dust control on a stand, etc,) which is very
similar in design to the Porter Cable router table which sells for $149,
although the fences are a little different. I realize that either of these
router tables (PC or Sears aluminum jobbies on a sheet metal stand) is
inferior to building a router table in terms of versatility, flatness, etc.
Neverthless, I'd like to use the PC router in the existing Sears table I
have until I get enough time and money to invest in building my own router
table.

The problem is the Sears table does not mate to the PC router. Has anyone
ever designed a clever way around this? I guess I could build a new insert
for the table, but I thought I'd check with folks first to see if there are
any other ideas or instructions on how to overcome. Until I do this the
project I have is going to get done using the Sears router because I'm not
fond of routing 1" wide pieces of cherry without the support of the table.

Thanks

Ed Ryan

Ed,
Sears sells the piece you want. They call it a universal mounting
bracket. Sells for about $12. I had one and it worked with the 690.

Sears has a part that does exactly that. I had the Sears router table
and a Porter Cable 690. It worked fine. I have since sold the router
table however. Go back to Sears and talk to them. It wasn't all that
expensive but they had to order it because they didn't have one in
stock.

Good Luck,

I had the exact problem that you're facing. I bought the PC 693K set (PC
690 router and Plunge base) on the advice of the newsgroup, and it's a
most excellent router. Of course, it wouldn't fit the Crapsman router
table. I figured it was because the PC 960 was the standard, and
therefore Sears couldn't bring themselves to make something compatable,
since that would mean customers could get jigs and such from other
sources. (Heaven Forfend!)

I solved the problem by selling the router, table, edge guide and misc
accessories to a co-worker. I used the money to buy PC branded template
guides and edge guide. I'll be building a table.

I did have two problems with these purchases. I had to fish through the
template guides at Home Despot because of the three on the shelf, none had
all the parts. Apparently the 7/16th guide was useful with the dovetail
jig on the next shelf and people kept stealing them, rather than pay the
$33 for the set. The edge guide came with 1/4-20 screws for attaching the
rods to the router base. Those holes are definitely not 1/4-20. 10-24
screws fit, but are rather loose. I have no idea what these holes are
actually tapped for.
