At least for 2008.

Heard a rumor and just confirmed it over at spiwindsurfing.com.

There's no SPI Blowout this year.

That's a bummer. I attended a few of the Blowout events & they were
alway a lot of fun. I remember visiting South Padre with some college
buddies back in the 80's and watching those guys windsurfing. It was
what originally got me into the sport. The event has a fascinating
history and has been going 25+ years. Hopefully it will return some
day soon.

It is a bummer. Word is getting back that the veteran organizers were
just burnt. Having been there, I don't blame them one bit. Another
rumor is circulating, but I'm not going to spread that one.

Past [and future] SPI Blowout participants,

Re: 2008 SPI Blowout Inflated

This is one type of inflation that's good for the economy...

I'm waiting another day before resending an official notice, to avoid
any April 1st confusion, but thought I'd start getting the word out.
Please help me spread the word tomorrow by posting to your respective
networks and forums. And if you have anything to donate as a prize, no
matter how small, please let me know.

To fill the vacuum left by the great folks that put on the SPI Blowout
for so many years, the NMWA is stepping up to the plate in an effort
to inflate the SPI Blowout for 2008. As always, it will be the first
weekend of May. Entry will be cheap [$10-ish]. We will try to pull it
off on Saturday, with Sunday as a backup day. Planned events: GPS
speed and distance, Looong Distance [at least an hour long] and a
shorter Not So Loong Distance race, and an iPod Name-That-Tune
giveaway contest. I've already got the iPod Shuttle and had it
engraved.

More later,

Barry Ritchey
Treasurer, NMWA

PS -- Sorry that this coincides with other events, but the Blowout has
always had the 1st weekend of May tradition.

In "Blowout" tradition, this could become the most wonderful Windsurf
