Anyone using the NP Diablo? I am looking at the
7.x sizes. There are a couple for sale on
iwindsurf.

I thought I just saw a discussion here ont he
Diablo, but now can't find it with a Google
search.

From the info that I can find it appears that the
Sailworks Retros or the Ezzy Infinity are better
sails, but anyone care to offer any advice.

Hi Greg,

First of all forgive my English, I am Greek so ......

I had 2 NP's this year (A Diablo 7,4 and a Spirit 7,2) and changed them to
Ezzy's Infinity. Actually I bougth the 7.8 and one week later i also bought
it in 6.0. So i could tell you the following :
I did not like the Diablo at all. Kept it for one month and it broke my
nnerves. I changed it to the Spirit an if it was not the awfull Neil Pryde
quality (they make them worse and worse every year), I would stick on this.
The Spirit has a great design gets powered up really easy and can also be
easily controlled when overpowered. I was using it with my X Ray 150 and i
wass pretty happy for a couple of months, untilll ...... the bad quality
made me look for a new sail.
I got the Ezzy and I can tell you that i recomend it 100% both for the
design and the quality. I ve been using it since May with my X Ray 150 and
now with my new TT 130 and i can say only good words for this sail. The only
thing you should NOT try is to take the cams off (even if Ezy says that
they are removable). The sail looses its comfort and stability. So, try one
with the cams on and it will surprise you!
Now, if you want a camless sail the Retros are a great choice. They get
better every year and i haven't yet met a disapointed Retro owner. For a
camless sail would also recomend to you the brand new Tushingham
Thunderbird. Great freeride sail with great quality.

I hope I helped a bit.

The Diablo is a different design to the Retro, so it is personal preference
which one to go for (they are both good sails).

The Diablo is a flatter sail than the Retro, and is more like a camless race
sail. The Retro is better for early planing, while the Diablo would probably
be better for drag racing. Kind of a 'powerful' vs 'slippery' feeling.

Cheers
Anton

Gee, if you hadn't told us you are Greek, I'dda thunk you were a
better-than-average 'Merican writer ... far better than this sentence.

Or drive you to LEAVE work, blow off any social commitments not associated
with sex (and half of those), leave society up to the Republicans, and leave
your financial future up to your spouse. First things first. Many of us can
fix most of those problems as well as we can now AFTER our sailing days are
done. The one we can't fix almost as well then will no longer be a pressing
problem.

Greg,

I have both a 7.7 and a 9.2 Diablo and I have to tell you that I absolutely
love them!!! They're easy to rig, light, and they're very stable when
powered up.

Thumbs up all around...

Gman,

I've only got one NP Diablo, and it is a 9.2m2. It is a good sail but I
had some real problems getting it tuned (thanks to all that helped). It
really needs to be matched with the NP mast. I rig it on a 520 Gulftech tha
is not a very good match. I have to downhaul until the whole head of the
sail is loose, not just the leach. I would never have rigged a sail like
this just looking at it on the beach. Once it has that much downhaul it
sails very well. It still has good power even at low wind speeds (8 - 15
mph).

I don't have any information on the smaller sizes.

Good Luck.

Nice to see a recommendation for a Tushingham sail here. On various
holidays (incl. Vassiliki, Greece) I have consistently found myself drawn to
the Tushingham sails (Hekler, Vulcan & Storm) despite a good range of Arrows
and Gaastra alternatives. They are good value and handle gusty conditions
extremely well. The hire centres find they last pretty well and also that
women absolutely love the women's/smaller person's version (called the
"Elle" or "Mustang"). Actually I have to confess that I also found the Elle
5.2 very nice despite the instructors amusement at a bloke taking a womens
sail but perhaps I am allowed being <70kg at 5'9"!

I hope you guys can get them somewhere in the US as they are well worth a
try. I have the Hekler 8.0 at home which is the fore-runner of the
Thunderbird that Helios is referring to.

regards

Mark

Thanks for all the replies...some real Diablo
fans, honestly didn't expect that. I've read
quite a bit of complaining about NP stuff here.

I think the Ezzy Infinity and the Sailworks Retros
still have the edge for me. Tough to find them
used tho...maybe that says it all right there.
They work so well, nobody's sellin'.
