Recently I saw a Tiga 260 for sale.

Since my AHD 255 (epoxy) is getting old, I've thought about picking up the
Tiga.

I know the Tiga 260 is going to be heavier, but does it sail very well?
(I have a dog, I don't need another.)

It would be my high wind board for 4.7 and down.
My mail board is my Mistal Edge for 6.0 and 5.0 Ezzy Race sails.

FYI: I'm 5-10 and 190#. Advanced sailor.
Make most jibes, but my air is wimpy since my knee operation a few years
ago.

Thanks,

Kevin

Hmm, I wonder if it was mine? Mine is sitting in a shop in the Bay Area :-)

Well if it isn't my board, I can still give some advice. For a newer
sailer, the tiga 260 is a pretty good high wind board . You can beat it to
death, and it still comes back. It rides smoother than most boards (at
least it feels that way), but it seems slower than my F2 Axis 262. On the
other hand, if you are real experienced, then you might be dissapointed.

We are about the same size and weight, but my jibes are behind yours. I
found the board fairly easy to turn (I was even making turns), and it had
enough floatation in the nose that I could even tack it. I used it 5.5 and
below (4.0 smallest sail) but mostly 5.0 and below.

The good news is that it should be cheap. I think mine is listed around
$150 or so...

Tiga 260, vintage mid 80's, blow moulded polyethylene, 90 litres, 9kg.
I know all this because I owned and loved one for several years. It took the
production board speed record one year. However, by today's standards the
mast track is too far forward, the straps too far inboard and closely
spaced, volume too far forward, fin box too weak etc. Every dog has its day
and the 260's had its unless there was another Tiga 260 I'm not aware of.
Best regards, Pete.

It would be interesting to sail the 260 for old times sake and also to see
how it compares to a modern board to see how far 10+ years of development
have brought us. I currently own F2 Axis 278 & 258. Pete.
(It doesn't matter what you sail, it's how much you enjoy it!)

Hi Kevin,
Bought a Tiga 260 new in 1992 and used it as my main board until 7
months ago when I replaced it with a 98 Screamer 260. The Tiga was one
of the best boards of its time, and beaches were littered with them in
the late 80's/early 90's.
If you're going to buy one make sure it is a 92 or 93 model (you can
tell as it should have conic fin box (very strong), deck pads and has
the logo Tiga 260 ACR (Advanced Course Racing) thereon). Also a notable
difference on these late models is the fact that the mast track had been
repositioned further back on the deck to cope with 'modern sails'. It
copes with sails between 3.0 and 5.5.
I was reluctant to replace it as it had served me well over the years
and I also felt that there were few boards of that size on the market
worth replacing it with. My Screamer 260 is obviously livelier, faster
and better for jumping, however it can't compare to the Tiga in terms of
high wind mental conditions when I am using sub 4.0 metre sails. The
Screamer struggles to cope with these conditions whereas the Tiga, with
it's narrower tail controls beautifully with high winds in big mushy
waves.
They're also pretty much indestructible too, (duratene blow moulded
construction).
Mine is currently lying in the garage gathering dust. It's in excellent
condition and comes with slalom blade and wave fins (also in excellent
condition). Yours or anyone else's for £95.
