I've sailed it once but not in really powered up conditions. It's very
fast with my 150# on it and a 6.5. I'm going to try it again this
weekend if the conditions are right and I'll let you know.

I have no experience with this board but I am also very interested in
it. The other day I was surfing the Net and I have got to a site where
you can find verbal description of the board by several people and
also ratings on a scale from 1-10.
The URL is : http://www.windsurfer.com/review-axxis278.html
Good luck,
Slalom (Lehel Somogyi)
Sailed one quite a bit down in Cabarete a few weeks ago. Not sure I can
be too specific, but i liked the board. Did not feel as light and turny
as a shorter board (say 265), but certainly planed up well and handled
the chop there with ease.

This board is really fantastic. It gybes very easy and it is even faster
than other slalom-boards of this class.
The 96-model is nearly the same as the 95. Only the design, color and the
fin is not the same. So you can safe much money by buying a 95-Axxis 278.
(here in germany I saved 35% money by buying a 95-board).

Thanks to Kitty Hawk Sports, Avon NC I demo'd the 96 F2 278 Axis all
day Saturday 3/23. Wind was 14-18 onshore at Canadian Hole. Kinda
mild B&J conditions but the board really flys. Tried it with 11.5" TA
Hot Dog, 11" TA Blade Weed, and 11" Rainbow Duffy . Used a 6.0
Spectro and was from slightly overpowered early to barely powered
later on. Board is very turny, goes upwind fairly well, and nobody
passed me, even the big guys on 6.5's.
Overall I liked it a lot, stays on the water really well for a light
weight like me 155#.

OOPS!!! I was looking at the Spring '96 North/F2
literature and realized I was really on the 268 Axis,
not the 278. I'll check out the 278 next trip and let
you know.

Yes! I hired one in Greece (Rhodos) and had spinouts too. Because I'm
not too experienced in waves I would take a conventional board like
the Screamer. The Axxis is a 'teardrop' or no-nose board and the shape
makes it very difficult to get in a plane in the waves.
Ciao!
