This is my 3rd spring/summer on shortboards so I guess I'm
an intermediate. I weigh about 200 lbs, and I want a board
that gets me out on the water a little more often than my
little Stinger CGI.
I sail at various places along the San Francisco Bay, (3rd
Avenue, Coyote, Candlestick, Chrissy) and once in a while
at Rio Vista.
Thanks,

My opinion-it was a lot of work to sail. I sail an E Rock regularly,
same volume slightly shorter, heavier, and only 0.2 inches wider. The
next day I sailed my E Rock again in similar conditions and it felt
soooooooo good.
I was racing with another guy on a similar sail, when I had the
Screamer II and we were even and sometimes he pulled ahead. Of course
he had a slightly larger board (Astro Rock).
I was really surprised at this result. I thought that I would love the
Screamer II. One thing, I could tack the Screamer II. I usually can't
get the E Rock around on a tack due the shortness and the more forward
location of the mast track.
And the Screamer II has way more nose scoop than the E Rock, I like
that.
So Screamer owners, what do you think?
Is there someone out there who has sailed both the E Rock and the
original Screamer and will give us his(or her) appraisal?

I only sailed the E-rock once in Aruba, and found it jybed very well. I doubt
that it is as fast as the Screamer though.
To tack the E-Rock, don't weigh down the front. Move QUICKLY around
the mast when you are nearly pointing into the wind. It just takes
practice. If you enjoy the E-Rock as much as you describe and have
not yet mastered tacking, then you have so much more to learn and
enjoy on this board before you need to buy another.
They must have improved the Vivace's since I tried them in Aruba, because I
felt they were just awful in chop.
NO, VELOCE, NOT VIVACE. I knew Bic would create confusion when they made
the names similar. The Vivaces are the racy boards, and I agree they
pretty much suck in a lot of conditions. The NEW VELOCEs are freeride
boards that pretty much work great in most conditions. It's a whole new
ball game at Bic, they've finally replaced the best two boards they ever
made, the E-rock and the A-rock. The Veloce 278 is a perfect replacement
for the E-rock--subtle performance increase, subtle no-nose, same easy and
fast sailing as the E-rock. Try one at your local dealer today!

I ownerd a Bic E rock and an A rock and they were, and still are
classics. the original freeriding jib-o matics. So is the Screamer
II, it almost goes around by itself, and that's good. My new Screamer
is CGI But when it comes to speed under 5 ish conditions overpowered
to 4.4 ( I love downhaul) the screamer stays in control longer and in
my experience ( I weigh 185) will stay with the 90 L slalom boards
when drag racing and even pass if I can hold it during gusts! The E
rock was also easy to sail, inboard strap location, but tended to
bounce about more in chop I thought. Also I did not sail it past 6.0,
whearas the Screamer will go comfortably to 7.0.
Bottom line - when is a deal not a deal - when you pay to much. I'f
$$ were the ultimate concern I'd buy the E rock at a good price, but
try to find one! In my opinion the screamer is a better jiber and
stays in the water better, planes faster, hence is faster, also more
wave rideable, and turny, but I could have bought a used E rock and
three sails used!
Tough call you can't lose.
Oh, yeah, Mistral CGI boards rule in the graphics department. The old
Bic space ship graphic was neat but the later swirly flowery stuff
didn't really do it for me.
