jibing = turning around by turning downwind
tacking = turing around by turning upwind
planing = going fast enough that your board skims across the surface of the
water instead of plowing through the water
centerboard = daggerboard = fin in center of board, just behind the mast base,
used only on larger boards
cams on sails = plastic device that helps form the front edge of the sail into
the ideal shape
fins = fin in the back of all boards
pumping = moving the sail rapidly in order to get extra power momentarily, kind
of like rowing through the air
straps, foot = in the back of the board that helps hold you down and give you
more control
uphauling = standing on the baord and pulling the sail out of the water with a
rope (uphaul).
water start = using the wind to lift the sail and rider out of the water. less
effort than uphauling.
