Then Whit Poor showed off his stuff and he had a 10-minute sail-off
with Mike (Whit did not compete in the Frenzy, I think). Well, Whit
seemed to be head and shoulders above Mike (no offense - Mike is pretty
amazing too). He made some really cool moves (I could hardly believe he
got probably 3ft up in the air off flat water doing a shove-it) and
looked pretty effortless doing his stuff. Even though he fell on
probably half his moves, even those looked effortless! I envy people
who live in locations where they can watch these guys on a regular
basis. Pretty inspiring.
Hello Nikita
Mike is pretty amazing - even more so for an amateur.
I wish we could have met for a chat, but I wasn't even sure I was going
to make it there (car trouble).
I was there on Sunday demo'ing KAsails next to the Mistral/North stand.
Did you get to try some gear?

I couldn't make it but ran into Fred Vetterlein Monday morning at
Kalmus Beach who gave me the results. 1. Mike Burns 2. Sergay <sp>
didn't get his last name 3. Fred Vetterlein.

LOL! It was a total Ezzy fest. I think I saw more SE Waves than Prydes
on the water....
We could have used a little more wind for the GPS speed thing (and to
sail our 5.0s) but it was pretty amazing there was any wind at all.
Dan, where were you?

Hi Marc - I had no idea that was you. I talked to you briefly after
recovering my (only) chinook base for the n-th time from your HiFly
freeride.
marc [grumpy]: "hey, you sure thats yours and not ours?"
me: "yea, [you bet your ass] that's mine"
;-)
Sorry, I am new to this.
Florian
It was nice to see so many Ezzy sails on the water. By my rough count,
there were at least 10 out of the total 50 sails on the water. That's
pretty impressive for a relatively small brand. I don't think any other
brand had more. Happy to see them multiplying.
You probably talked to Scott about the jet flying over us sailing. The
place where we sail is just a couple of miles away from the airport, so
in certain winds they come right over us for landing. In light winds it
actually creates some powerful vortexes and it sounds very cool
(sometimes they even create water/sand devils). So I am not surprised
that someone saw us sailing (and that orange Ezzy is REALLY hard to
miss), but it was interesting that Scott's friend, whom he hasn't seen
in ages, saw us sail and then ran into him in town the very same
evening!

Please don't worry; I know exactly where you were coming from.
;-)
Next year I will also remove uphauls from my rigs, so beginners don't
feel tempted to climb back onto boards with their harness hooks digging
into thin carbon decks.
