Few weeks ago, I ordered some WSH harness lines.

Got an order confirmation number and all.

Called 'em just now to try to find out why the lines never came.

Guy seemed a little bent out of shape over it.

"Windsurfing Hawaii's been out of business for *years*, we don't
have *anything* by them."

"Well, the harness lines came up on your web page, your system
accepted the order, took my credit card number, and issued a
confirmation. How about I give you the order number?"

"Doesn't *MATTER*.... you found a ghost page in the server...."

"Well, it'll matter if my credit card gets dinged and I don't
have the lines.... How about we check the order?"

(heatedly) "You'd better have some proof before you make
accusations like that"...

"Oh well...."

Been buying stuff via web pages for quite a few years now.

Came across a few losers, but never anything like this.

Seems like the guy was distancing himself from "the web
server".... and "ghost pages"..... like it wasn't his
responsibility.

I guess it'll all out OK.... but sheesh!....

Heaven forbid I should order something else from these guys and
need to check on the order...

Having gotten that off my chest....

Anybody have any leftover adjustable WSH harness lines,
size=large? aka "24-29 Inch Adjustable Hard Ones"

As shown so nicely in:
http://www.surfingsports.com/product.asp?prod=wsh_09109C

Ghost page my butt. I was able to easily navigate to those harness lines on
their site.

I had a similar experience about 2 years ago with them. I placed an order
for a fin and ended up with a mast base! I thought, oh well, people make
mistakes, no biggie. I called them and got the same attitude. I just told
the guy that they had sent me the wrong item. The guy kept saying that it
was my fault -- being a real jerk about it. The guy did not budge an inch
and just kept berating me for ordering the wrong item and then calling them
to correct the problem. I don't know how in the hell I could have
mistakenly ordered a mast base instead of a fin, and it wasn't like I was
pissed when I started the call.

But as you stated "Oh well..."

That's our lost buddy Wardog. I have to say, he's always been pretty
good on the phone. I've never ordered anything from him but he was
quite happy to chat about wavesailing at San Carlos.

Maybe his vibe isn't what it used to be? Still, I'm kinda suprised
that he would treat a customer like that.

I ordered an Jimmy Lewis SUP, Paddle, Board Bag, had it shipped across
country without a hitch from Wardog. It was packaged well,
communication was great along with the service. He even threw in a
Surfingsports.com SUP T-Shirt for free. No complaints here.

My experience ordering stuff from Wardog has only been positive. He's
usually quite upbeat so he may be having issues outside of the public
eye. Windsurfers and our shops are like giant extended family, we
should try to take care of each other and cut each other some slack
from time to time. He might have been having a real bad day, like the
rest of us have on occasion. I wouldn't hesitate to order from him
again

Per Dan Weiss:

I suspect it was a perception issue - where he thought I was
questioning his personal integrity.

He kind of blind sided me: first he's distancing himself from his
shop's system with the "ghost page" thing... and then, when I
question if the system might be dinging my credit card for a
non-existent item/unfulfilled order, he suddenly takes it as a
personal challenge.

In retrospect - if I had to come up with a hypothesis - I'd say
his "system" is just a bunch of web pages that somebody set up
for him and when a customer keys an order into the "system" all
it really does is generate a piece of paper with the ordered item
and the customer's info.... making the rest of it a manual
process... and hence any questioning of it a challenge to him
personally and not the "system".

Hey Pete, what you say makes sense to me. I kind of got that feeling
the last time I ordered a weed fin from him. Somehow the order made
it thru and the fin was shipped promptly. Bob Thompson

Three or four years ago I purchased a True Ames fin from
SurfingSports. Wardog took the order and indicated he would need to
get the fin from Ames. When the item was received, Wardog was out of
town and someone else handled the shipping. Both people were very
cordial and helpful. The whole process was pain-free.

I've ordered two boards and at least two fins from surfingsports. And
several rec.windsurfing tee-shirts and hats. And I bought a sail from
him when I was in Santa Barbara a few years ago (after he had let me try
it out).

Both Warren and Debbie (Wardog and Debdog) were great to deal with, their
advice to me has been spot-on. No problems at all and I'd highly recommend
buying from them. I expect to buy from them again in the future.

I don't know what to say about your experience. I hope it was just a bad
day.

Hope this helps,

Cliff

Actually, WS Hawaii hasn't gone out of business. There's a guy who
still sells mast extentions which are branded WS Hawaii. They are
bona fide WS Hawaii products. I've never bought from that shop. I
didn't realize that Wardog was a shill, either. He definitely had an
attitude.

Ok, ok, it's probably not any of my business, but you're a New Jersey
sailor, correct?

Why not just get what you're looking for at one of the three or more
windsurfing shops in the NJ/PA area? I'm sure they've all got a
decent selection of harness lines. You can get what you're looking
for in person and know that you're walking out the door with what you
want rather than "ghost pages" and "dinged credit cards". And you'll
help support the local shops.

Actually, I'm sure you do give plenty of business locally. However, I
just can't see why anyone would prefer to purchase anything online,
particularly from a shop on the other side of the country, when they
can shop locally and help keep the local shops going.

They were Windsurfing Hawaii harness lines and it appears that
WSH went out of business some years ago.

Since the lines came up on the web page of the outfit in
question, I figured they still had some inventory.

Otherwise, I would have called Extreme in Pleasantville and
picked them up next time I was in town.

In the end, I'll do that - as soon as I can find a set of 210 or
220 carbon booms to replace the ones that walked.

Harness line-wise, the closest analogs seem tb something by
Chinook - but still flawed compared to the WSH product bc the
rope is not readily replaceable - having part of the adjustment
mechanism sewn directly on to it - and the cleat mech looks like
it won't adjust under load as easily as the WSH buckles.

I've heard good things about the chinook adjustables with the cleat,
however I haven't used them myself.
For the most part, Windsurfing Hawaii did make some nice harness lines
over the years, although the ones with the metal "cam" buckle were not
too good, as the cam did not hold...I ended up tieing them in one
position.
Line replacement on the Chinooks shouldn't be too much of an issue if
you use a reactor bar. The only time I ever had to replace harness
lines was during the period that I experimented with a standard bar.

I was thinking more in terms of a lightly longer line and maybe
heavier line.

On my WSH lines, I put on heavier line and two layers of
polyethylene - so, on a good day, the wind doesn't blow them
sideways when I'm not hooked in.
