thanks
I don't see any great reviews on this board. To me, the decision would
come down to whether I could be happy on a longboard in the winds you
are talking about. I'm 15 lbs. lighter than you and in 10 knots I can
ride a 150 liter board with 10.5, but if I come off plane if it
lightens up. I can throw that 10.5 on a Superlight and maybe schlog
less, but have far less fun in the gusts than I do on a shortboard.
If 9.0 is as big as you want to go, I would probably suggest a Kona or
look at the SB Phantom, that looks nice.
Gee, I sold my Mistral One-Design a long time ago ;-)

Which is probably why people like me win light wind races.

As far as the other boards mentioned, the Madd has a tighter turning radius
and a huge sail range, at the expense of a little top speed. It is also
outstanding with regard to construction, and comes with good fins and the
same DaKine style footstraps - excellent.
The Techno Formula is equal to the others as far as sail range and ease of
use, more abrasion resistant (plastic skin) but gives up a little
performance do to its softer, heavier construction. Still a good shape and
GREAT value, decent components and hundreds less than most other new boards
because Bic owns their own factory and has very efficient production.
Any longboard, old like a Superlight, or new like a Kona, is an "apples and
oranges" comparison. The feel and range of use is totally different.
Longboards glide in light winds when widestyles drag. Once the widestyles
plane, they are much faster and more maneuverable. For Kalmus I'd skip
longboards and go right to the big freerides like the ones you are
considering.
