I'm going to buy a used fanatic bee 284 ( the green model ), so I would
appreciate if someone can explain me if there's a great difference between
this board shape and another more recent like X-ray 130.
My weight is only 135 lb and I'm looking for a boad as easy as possible with
light winds.
Thank you for you answers

Dunno the x-ray, but this is the green BEE 284 I bought a few months
back: http://sailnashville.com/284/

I really like it with 7.0 V8 and will soon have a new 40 cm Curtis
CR-7 for it. I'm 165 lbs.

The Fanatic Bee 284 was the first production widestyle board available. It
totally blew the top off of what can be expected in a recreational board. Early
plannig, ease of sailing and FAST.This board also came with an innovative
footstrap system called Quicklok, and it introduced BIG (for the time) fins
which actually worked well. Construction (then as NOW) was state of the art in
lightness/stiffness & durability

this board will be considered a true CLASSIC

The Xray 130 is a real good board but not ground breaking like the Bee was.
Fanatic unlike most companies does not only prototypedesign but also extensive
head to head testing with a variety of skill level people. They did not bring
the Xray/Stingray out as a marketing ploy...The Xray is a better board than the
bee.

Note: the Xray 130 is 17 liters less than the Bee 284. So for a more apples to
Apples comparison I'll refer to the XRay 150 which is 138 liters (exactly the
same as the Bee 284. I have sailed the Xray 150 & 130 extesively

The Xray is
Planes earlier
more stable
easier to turn
Handles chop better

The BEE is
Still a bit faster, but speed was more in vogue then.

Both are good boards even by todays standards...The Xray/Stingray is an
improvement on a theme.

If you are interested we have these boards in our Demo fleet rigged & ready to
go right on Lakes Bay in Atlantic City NJ. Come by you can compare & contrast
not only the Fanatics but AHD's & Starboards as well as BIC

If I can be of any further help fel free to contact me directly

I think you are confusing the 284 with the 289. The 284 is only 59 cm wide,
which doesn't make it a wide style board. The 289 is 65 cm wide and I really
like it a lot. I'm selling mine when I get a Hyper Sonic, but until that
time, I'm sure I'll have a lot of very enjoyable sailing sessions with the
289. One of the best board purchases I have ever made...

I'm sure the 284 will be OK too, but it's quite different from modern wide
style freerides.
