Just browsing iWindsurf for a few minutes, I get the impression that it's
significantly windy.

Anybody live near there?

I think a few guys here are from that area, I think Steve slaby (sp) is
from around there.

pretty sure windsurfing-direct.ca is in Kingston.

Its a pretty cool town. A number of Canadian cultural icons are from there
including "the tragically hip"

Well, it *can* be windy.

Used to live in Ottawa, which is a couple of hours north of Kingston. Had
family there, so visited fairly often. In fact, my brother in law who first
introduced me to windsurfing lived there.

Have had a few excellent days in Kingston when summer thermals augmented the
common westerly breezes. The lake stays pretty cool until mid summer.
Further east from there were a few popular parks (Sand Banks and
Presqu'isle) and launches that would periodically offer up wonderful
conditions - mostly with frontal systems. With today's gear you could
probably sail there a lot more.

In those days, we got skunked more often than sailed. But yes, it's a nice
city. Big university crowd, big hospital crowd. Light on the industry.
Lots of green space and a couple of sailing shops.

Cheers
Gary

Kingston is pretty good for wind, but today was over the top... Really,
too much wind today.

At around 8:30 this morning the wind picked up alot and all you could
really see of the water was horizontal spray. I was in it, and couldn't
even waterstart, and if I did, I couldn't go far before falling. Just
had to sit in the water for half an hour until the wind and waves
washed me up on shore.
I am not really one to overestimate winds, and I am sure there were
times today of over 50kts!

But, in general Kingston is not like this. Typical light wind summer
thermals, and the strong fall system driven winds is what keeps us on
the water. Spring is usally not very good for wind as the lake is cold
and doesn't let the system wind come down to water level.

Lots of windsurfers in the area considering the size of the town. Check
out http://www.geocities.com/kingstonboardsailing/index.htm for some
more local info if you are interested.

Check out iwindsurf.com.
At a launch in Quebec called Superior Shoals it peaked in excess of 50
kts at 11:00 a.m.

Kingston's page easgusting to around 45 kts between 4:00 and 8:00am the
record has a gap for 8:00 to 2:00pm but maybe tomorrow we will get the
graph as history.

Certainly a lot of wind!!

Too Windy!!! I couldn't skip a meeting this afternoon for a day roadtrip
but with gusts in the 50+ mph range it would have been nuts. The experts
were avoiding jumps because it was just too crazy.

Locally I was overpowered on a 4.0 and would have rigged a 3.5 if work
didn't get in the way.

I thought I heard that the wind blew the wind sensor out of commission.

The following are pics from Ottawa (2hrs from Kingston). Not nearly as
windy but the occasional liquid smoke came blowing down the river.
Kingston/Sandbanks pics should be coming soon...

I believe all the pics were from Britannia (at least the ones I took!). It
was pretty much west.

Steve.
