Epic Carbon Boom Problems

The clips that lock down the pins that keep the tail at a given
position continue to break. These clips are made of plastic and are
designed to flex a little to give a secure snap into place when you
close the clip after adjusting the boom. The problem is that the clips
continue to break. They do not break immediately but take about 6 mos.
to break. They all break in the same spot and all break at the same
time (when I open the clip to adjust the tail while rigging). I have
tried grinding the ears down on the clips to add less stress but they
still break. I sail about 4 times a week and use my booms a lot but I
have never had any other problems other than these clips on these
booms. I must note that I have had 2 aluminum booms from epic with the
same clips and never had a problem. It seems the problem is with
carbon booms only.
I am now on about on my 10th set of clips on both booms and I was told
that the new clips would work better because they were made out of new
material. I have had the new material ones for about 3 mos. now. As of
today they are too splitting but not like the old ones. Instead of
plillting into 2 halves right down the boom were the 2 locking pins
are located, these are slpitting around the boom. They are also
splitting in multiple places. The splitting looks like wood
splitting.
I know that others in my area have the same problems with these carbon
booms. Is there anyone else having the same problem? Does anyone know
of a fix? I am quickly getting fed up with this problem.

I've got a couple of the Epic Carbon Booms. I have not had that
problem. But I don't sail as much as you either. My booms are a
couple of years old.
Call the US Distributors. Steve and Marty at Sandy Point Progressive
Sports. You'll have to google the number. I'm thinking they should
be able to take care of you.

I've had many Epic booms. The original clips break because of the
Stainless steel used. The later ones have a different formula of
plastic and steel. Sounds like you've been getting the originals,
over and over. Are you Chad that worx for Ride? Ask for several
extras. Steve and Marty got the replacements for free, and handed
them out like candy to all that asked....
The Dog, you mainly sail fresh water, right? My guess is Chad you
need to rinse his booms off after use. Some people do that with all
their gear after every use. I don't, but I have closer access to more
clips. But, I have not needed new ones for quite some time. I seem
to have gotten the new ones.

I'm about 30% salt water use. But I'm pretty good about rinsing. The
old Gulftech booms with aluminum extensions taught me to do that.

just recently received some new clips and I am hoping that these are
the new ones and that they stop breaking. I never rinse my stuff off.
I use my stuff at least three times a week in the summer. In the
winter it is about once a week. It is all neatly (jamed) into my
trailer. It would be a pain to dig it all out after every day and
rinse it. My wife also sails so that would be a lot of washing.
