The US Open registration is today. For those not pre-registered, there
will be registration at the Omni Marina hotel downtown. Equipment checkin
is at Oleander right after registration. Last minute prep is being done
at the launch, too.
Besides racing Thu-Sun this year we have a freestyle demonstration on
Saturday by Matt Pritchard and Jace Panebianco. Sunday we'll have a
Junior Freestyle Exhibition with some of the top young freestylers.
Kitesurfing will be on each day, too, as will BMX and skateboarding
demonstrations. There will be live music each evening and a party each
night downtown. It's going to be an interesting event.
The forecast is really weird. We had a cold front come through and we have
NE wind Tue, Wed (today) and Thu (forecast). This is really, really
strange this time of year and will mean racers could see parts of the bay
they've only heard about. ;-) The forecast for Thu is NE 10-15, which
translates to most likely raceable, Fri is E 5-10, which doesn't sound
good (iffy direction, low forecast, but if it clocks around in the
afternoon, it could reach raceable strength). Sat is back to the normal
spring SE at 10-15, and Sun should go off at 15-20, perfect for the junior
freestylers. We all know what forecasts mean, though. I think it will
make for an interesting combination of conditions that should see a good
variety of sailors taking a win.
I'll be posting race results ASAIC each evening. I also hope to have
10-20 good pics each evening and maybe some audio from WR, too. It'll be
hard to fit it all in, but I'm gonna try.

Accuweather's wind forecasts in this area are good, but I find that when
they say "13 gusting to 22" it means "13-18, it will gust to 22 for 5
minutes while you are on the beach rigging up to a bigger sail, but then
pause, see the wind increase, rig DOWN instead, and hit the water just as
it dies back down to 13." A little might be lost in the translation, but
that's the gyst.
The Marine forecast is more generic, covering the whole day, not hour by
hour.

There's nothing list in the translation, Hans, I understand that all
too well.
