Now that I've taken up my winter residence, I'm once again becoming
aware of the weight difference in rigs. I have heavy equipment here.
The Chinook Comp boom and a 30% carbon mast. If I purchase new and
more expensive replacements, the rig will be lightened by a pound or
two. Up to now this hasn't been a noticeable difference for me once I
am sailing. However, since I've been having trouble with shoulder
tendonitis, I'm wondering if a lighter rig might be less stressful.
However, I do think that the power of the wind still creates the
biggest force creating the stress. What do you think?

Per swiftwater:

My take is that once you're under way, the feeling of weight
largly goes away until you need to change direction.

OTOH, the subjective diff between 30% and 90% carbon mast is
huge. But I don't think it's the pound of wight. Instead I
think it's the added responsiveness of the higher-carbon mast.

I A/B'd rigs with a guy once. Same boards, similar booms, same
sails except his was an 8.5 and mine was a 7.5.. but I had 90%
carbon mast and he had a 30% carbon mast. He didn't know that.
But he couldn't get over how much faster and more responsive my
whole rig felt.

Swiftwater!? I thought you posted the same question on iWindsurf
using the moniker Speedysailor? Or was it Sailingjoe? Or
Cosmicharlie? Oh Brucie, please tell us who you are . . . but please
don't believe you come across as swift. You don't.

Brucie, your equipment may be heavy, but your intelligence is
definitely lightweight.
