Hi All,

Does anybody know where I can get NeilPryde mast plug? I found the
description on NeilPryde's website and the part is called Female Mast
Cap (822 or 823), but I can't find a store to buy it. Any suggestions
would be appreciated.

Try asking a Pryde sailor. Each new sail used to come with a cellophane bag
containing literature and several mast plugs of sizes to fit different masts.

Or, perhaps, contact Adventure Sports in Florida as they were distributers for
Neil Pryde.

Powerex sent me some in the past, but they did not have the small one
I needed.

We, (Berkeley Boardsports) have those plugs in stock. Send me an
email or call if you still need one. The plugs come in two sizes.
The larger size is for 430 and 490 Neilpryde, Fiberspar masts as well
as Powerex RDM (any size), and the small one is for 460 Neilpryde and
Fiberspar masts and any regular diameter Powerex mast.

New NP sails do NOT come with the mast caps anymore, I guess they expect you to
buy their masts as well.

I think the issue is with older Neil Pryde sails with shear tips which
required special mast plugs. Since new Neil Pryde sails no longer have
shear tips there is no longer the need for specific mast plug. So this
doesn't appear to be a case of NP suddenly trying to make their sails
less compatible with non NP masts...

All the new NP sails need to have the NP mast plug in the top and the plug
doesn't come in the bag. I just got a NP quiver as well as a friend getting a
quiver of new NP's and this was the case. I did get some NP masts as well. RON

The plug Andrey was originally looking for was designed to fit sails
w/ the Shear Tip head batten. Then, instead of having two different
male top plugs on their sails, NP put the larger, tapered male top
plugs on all their sails (Shear Tip or not). Now that the Shear Tip
is gone, we are still left w/ a male top plug at the top of the sail
that only NP uses. You can either:
-get a NP mast, which has a mast cap that will fit the NP plug
-you can change the male tip piece that attaches to the sail's tophaul
-you can change the plug that's at the top of your mast to a NP plug
-you can buy sails other than NP

It is annoying that you have to futz around w/ this stuff, but I must
say, that the NP mast cap/plug system is very convenient after
everything is set. The shape of the tip and plug make it so the mast
automatically seats itself when rigging, so you don't have to go to
the top of the sail and make sure that some tiny pin makes its way
into some tiny hole. You can also get male mast tip plugs from
Gaastra that fit the standard hole size (like on PX and Fib), but the
tips are shorter and have some taper, and I've found that they
automatically seat themselves almost as well as the NP ones.
